The Cannon-Fodder Aunt in the Stepmother Novel [1960s]

In stepmother stories, the stepson is indispensable. But the heroine's family, who should have been her support, are usually awful people or cannon fodder.

Unfortunately, Ye Ning transmigrated into the story as one such awful cannon-fodder character.

She shamelessly mooched off her brother-in-law's family, hoping to use her status as his sister-in-law to marry him. In the end, she failed and was kicked out!

She refused to give up and tried to turn things around by tricking the two children. But at the train station, she caught the attention of human traffickers. She was deceived and sold, and eventually died in some unknown foreign land. Only one of the two children was ever found.

Then the stepmother appeared, healed the children, married the brother-in-law, and lived happily ever after as a family, demonstrating the right way to take advantage of living nearby.

Ye Ning: ...

Clearly, life was too good and people had too much to eat. Everywhere she looked, it was all romance.

Ye Ning didn't want to get involved in any of this. But faced with familiar plot points, a train station, a kind big sister, two kids, and the threat of being deceived and abducted, she was already a fat little lamb waiting to be slaughtered...
