Crash into the Clouds

In the bitter winter of 2008, Changnan saw its heaviest snowfall in ten years.

Fuyuan Temple was swallowed by the sudden snow. Lin Yunduo capped her pen and tilted her head to look. Beside her, the boy was clutching his letter tightly.

“What did you write? Why are you being so secretive?” Lin Yunduo asked, baffled.

Li Jinyang laughed without restraint. The winter wind roared past his face, ruffling his black hair. Beneath the vast white snow, his free-spirited confidence shone brighter than the dazzling landscape.

“I’ll tell you after the college entrance exams.” His clear eyes curved into a smile. “Lin Yunduo, have you ever thought about what you’ll be like ten years from now?”

The girl shook her head.

“Then send your letter to your future self.” Li Jinyang dropped both their letters into the time capsule mailbox.

Fuyuan Temple fell into disrepair after 2015 and became a ruin.

Lin Yunduo thought she’d never uncover the secret.

But at twenty-seven, Lin Yunduo received an anonymous letter. The familiar handwriting was bold and powerful. He wrote of his hopes and dreams for the future, but there was nothing else about her in it.

Only when she turned it over did she see the line on the back:

“Yunduo, be like a cloud. Never be afraid of falling out of the sky.”

Li Jinyang, you finally wrote back to me.
