Saving the Cannon Fodder Sister

[The blurb for my next novel, Tricked by a Nine-Tailed Fox, is at the very bottom.]

[Going on hiatus and beginning the reverse-v on the day after tomorrow, September 6. Chapters 21 through 39 will be locked.]

Many female-led stories have a cannon-fodder older sister with a love-addled brain, who serves as a warning to the female lead not to become the same way.

The most tragic sisters are those abandoned after having a child for a scumbag. In the end, they take their own lives, leaving the child for the female lead to raise.

Female lead: Listen, let me thank you.

Li Zhao Fa was reading a novel in the middle of the night and called the heroine an idiot. When she woke up, she was in the novel. As luck would have it, she was now the roommate of that love-addled older sister, along with a useless System that could only issue missions. She could earn points to buy skins and voice packs.

She'd thought the love-addled Shen Yukai would be the silly, sweet type, but why wasn't this person following the script?

Wow, she's so much of a queen. I love her.

"Hi. Let's get married." Li Zhao Fa never thought she'd fall victim to a love-addled brain herself.

After getting a fresh start, Shen Yukai had given up on love. She only wanted to study, make money, and raise her younger sister and grandmother.

But she noticed her roommate seemed to have become a different person. She clung to Shen Yukai every day, wanting them to eat, sleep, and study together, and kept insisting they should get married.

At first, Shen Yukai found her annoying and wanted to kick her out. But little by little, she got used to having her chattering away beside her. When she saw her laughing and talking with someone else, she even felt a powerful sense of possessiveness.

"You can only like me," Shen Yukai mumbled sleepily as she hugged Li Zhao Fa in bed.

Li Zhao Fa: "Kakai, don't go to work. I'll support you."

Shen Yukai rolled her eyes. "Get lost. Don't stand in the way of me getting rich."

That was until Li Zhao Fa transferred all her assets to Shen Yukai.

Shen Yukai wondered, how could there be someone even more love-addled than me? Can I run off with the money?

"I just like her," Li Zhao Fa told the System, which had changed into yet another skin.

"Love-addled! I'll go get my forklift license right now," the System replied, contacting its supervisor to spend points on the license.

[Same-sex marriage is legal in this setting. One-on-one romance. Sweet love story.]

Next novel: Tricked by a Nine-Tailed Fox

[One-on-one romance. A taciturn young disciple of an immortal sect vs. a flirtatious, beautiful great demon.]

Yan Fengle is an oddball among the disciples of her immortal sect. She doesn't fit in, so she always takes on assignments alone.

That gave the nine-tailed fox a chance to take advantage of her, drawing her in and tempting her bit by bit. How could a beginner like Yan Fengle, a nobody from the starting village, resist a top-tier seductress like the nine-tailed fox? It took only a few rounds for the fox to win her over.

Yan Fengle gave her whole heart away, dreaming about their future together.

But the fox was after the divine bone inside her. When Yan Fengle learned the truth, she cried, but still risked her life to save the nine-tailed fox when she was caught in a deadly formation.

You like the divine bone, don't you? Here, take it. No need to thank me. Yan Fengle used the power of the bone to save the fox, then used the last of her strength to send her away.

"Shen Qinghuai, remember my face." Yan Fengle placed the divine bone in the nine-tailed fox's hand and struck her with a palm, sending her out of the deadly formation while staying behind to face the consequences alone.

Without the divine bone, Yan Fengle was left crippled. She spent a hundred years recovering beneath the lotus pond before she finally woke. Now, she wanted nothing at all. She only wanted to live quietly as an ordinary person.

But the nine-tailed fox came back and clung to her, saying all sorts of nonsense about loving her.

"Le'er, I approached you with ulterior motives back then, but I never intended to take your divine bone. I truly love you."

"What else do you want? My life? Shen Qinghuai, your words are completely untrustworthy."

"Nothing. I don't want anything. I only want you, Le'er."

"Ha... How ridiculous."

Scene one: Yan Fengle's ankles are wrapped in the nine-tailed fox's tail. Her cheeks are flushed, but she still pretends to be calm and unbothered...

Scene two: At the centennial celebration, Shen Qinghuai sees someone whose silhouette looks just like her beloved and abandons everyone to chase after her...

Scene three: In the realm of rebirth, Shen Qinghuai, her eyes covered with mermaid silk, kneels by the lotus pond and uses demon blood to draw 999 soul-summoning talismans...

[The fox pursues her wife to the crematorium. A little angst in the middle, happy ending.]

Theme: Our fate is in our own hands.
