Xu Qingchi has loved Chu Mulan for a full ten years. She never dreamed she'd get to marry him one day. She never imagined, either, that she'd spend their wedding night alone.
Xu Qingchi waits from dusk till dawn. She thinks, Fine. Maybe something really came up. We have all the time in the world.
Later, Chu Mulan brushes her off and ignores her.
He says he's busy.
She still thinks, We have all the time in the world.
Chu Mulan probably can't remember how many nights she waited up for him, but he does remember to remind her to take birth control pills after every time they sleep together.
Then, on their wedding anniversary, she stands in the hospital with her arm bloodied and watches him walk into the obstetrics and gynecology department with his first love. The tender, careful way he treats her cuts Xu Qingchi to the heart.
Perhaps, in Chu Mulan's eyes, her deep devotion isn't worth a thing.

Years later.
Chu Mulan stands in the middle of a snowstorm, looking through a car window at the person he's longed for day and night. He points to the adorable child in the rear-facing car seat and asks in a low voice, "Whose child is that?"
Xu Qingchi smiles. "Mine. It has nothing to do with you."
As the car window rolls up, Xu Qingchi clearly sees Chu Mulan's eyes turn red. But she doesn't hesitate. She steps on the gas and drives away.
Watching her leave, Chu Mulan murmurs, "Qingchi, will you come home with me?"
Both leads are each other's first and only partners. No real-life inspirations.
[A groveling pursuit of his wife + running away while pregnant]
There's a reason she takes birth control pills. I'll explain later (please don't hate me.jpg)
