[Please be sure to read the reading guide at the very end of the synopsis!]
Only after Yan Huanyue died did she learn just how much Yu Zhao, the Dao companion who had just married her, loved her body.
He broke her bones, dug out her heart, threw her into an immortal cauldron piece by piece to refine her into pills, then fed them to the girl he truly loved.
But he left none of her soul behind.
As her soul shattered, she returned to the day the sect leader had summoned her for a talk. Beyond the hazy gauze curtains, she glimpsed a frail, unfamiliar young man.
The sect leader asked her, "Huanyue, your constitution is special. If becoming Dao companions with someone could save his life, would you be willing?"
In her previous life, she hadn't known who the young man beyond the curtains was. Now she knew: he was the son the sect leader had borne after being abducted by a seductive demon years ago. He had been separated from his mother as a child, never met her, and had only recently been found.
His mother had originally intended to refine the fetus in her womb to increase her cultivation, but in the end, she gave birth to him. Injured by his mother's cultivation technique, he had been frail from birth and was left in Chang'an to be raised by others.
The young man had appeared at the sect only once. She had seen him twice.
Before she died at someone else's hands, she had only heard that he too was on the brink of death due to serious illness. The sect leader had exhausted her cultivation to save him and gone white-haired overnight, allowing the demons to seize the opportunity to attack Tianyan Sect.
In her previous life, she had replied, "This disciple wishes to become Dao companions with Senior Brother Yu for the rest of her life."
In this life, looking at the sect leader who had shown her great kindness, Yan Huanyue nodded and answered, "This disciple is willing."
.
After their betrothal, Yan Huanyue busied herself with cultivation and missions.
The young man sat alone every day by a spacious, bright window in the library, watching her travel with her fellow disciples from Tianyan Sect, carefree and spirited. He showed no emotion from beginning to end.
That was, until he was captured by his nemesis. On a snowy night, the girl chased after him for a thousand li with only a light robe on, flying her sword to rescue him. She brushed the snow from between his brows and said softly, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
.
Pei Xuanzhi was the most exquisite chain his mother had forged to keep his father bound to her. He had always hated the pathological entanglement between his parents, but never imagined that one day he, too, would become a madman like his mother...
Reading Guide:
1. My own take on cultivation, with many original details. Slow-burn, not a power fantasy, and fond of describing the little things.
2. Plot-focused. (There is slightly more plot than romance, but plenty of romance too.)
3. The heroine is busy working on herself, while the hero is going mad. Both are each other's first and only.
4. The characters all have their own flaws and aren't paragons of virtue. The story follows its own logic, so please don't send me writing advice.
5. The characters aren't based on real people. Please don't compare them to real-life individuals in the comments. I'm very grateful.
6. My writing really is limited, and I can't write a story that will satisfy everyone. Meeting here is fate, and I'm grateful to everyone who reads with an open mind, knows when to stop, and parts on good terms. Love, love!
7. I sometimes revise chapters after posting to fix omissions. Please ignore any duplicate update notifications.

She Really Isn't the Villainess in a Redemption Story
After a voice suddenly sounded in Cen Xueyin's mind, she discovered she could foresee the future.
She learned that the two Shangqing Sect disciples she'd just met, Wei Lingzan and Zhou Xuanqing, would both fall into demonic ways and plunge the world into chaos.
In the end, they would be slain by the extraordinary cultivator Xie Xingzhuo.
At the moment, however, Zhou Xuanqing was just a handsome young cultivator beginning to make a name for himself in the cultivation world. He had only just found a junior disciple with promising talent for the sect: Wei Lingzan.
The two young cultivators were carefree and cheerful every day.
So, to prevent these two future archdemons from killing countless people, Cen Xueyin decided to eliminate them in advance.
.
Wei Lingzan was an honest person struggling to get by.
She had just left the home of her nominal husband, who was five years younger than her, and was about to find a way to support herself and live on her own.
Zhou Xuanqing dropped from the sky and said she had some talent for cultivation. He offered to take her back to the sect and make her his junior disciple.
She was so young. Full of hope, she followed him, believing that she really might get to glimpse the vast and magnificent world of cultivation in this life.
Then, after Wei Lingzan came back to life, she heard that Zhou Xuanqing and Cen Xueyin had become engaged.
Wei Lingzan, unaware of the truth: That's wonderful! Congratulations!
It was a long time before she learned that the reason she'd died once was because of a "prophecy" only Cen Xueyin could hear.
And Cen Xueyin's supposed plan to slay demons and save the world meant that after killing Wei Lingzan, she suddenly decided Zhou Xuanqing might still be worth saving?
First of all, she hadn't offended anyone.
And secondly, why was she the unlucky one?
.
Wei Lingzan hadn't wronged anyone, yet just as she was lying dead in peace, a righteous young hero dragged her out and subjected her to a round of exorcisms and suppression.
Wei Lingzan: ...
Young hero: I'm Xie Xingzhuo. I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else.
Wei Lingzan: ...
Out of guilt, Xie Xingzhuo took her back to the sect for treatment. Unfortunately, he had a fellow disciple with a deep-seated grudge against him.
This junior brother seemed cheerful and easygoing, but was actually devious and cunning. Because he was at odds with Xie Xingzhuo, he also held a grudge against her.
Wei Lingzan: I've never offended you, yet you take it out on me. Fine, if you and Xie Xingzhuo don't get along, why should I bother talking to you?
But later, beneath the night rain, as an orchid-painted boat drifted on the water, the young man's eyes were clear and bright as he gazed quietly at her.
For some reason, he suddenly leaned closer.
A breeze happened to sweep past, lifting her hair ribbon and brushing lightly over the corner of his lips.
He said that she had abandoned him once.
Coming Soon 2: The Great Dao Has No Bounds
The day Yin Ruyi's parents walked a thousand li with her to Changling Mountain for a spiritual root test, the snow fell heavily and the wind was bitterly cold.
When she came down the mountain carrying the verdict, "Inferior spiritual root," her parents were huddled beneath a withered tree beside someone else's splendid carriage. Wrapped in cotton clothes stuffed with floss, they rubbed their chapped, frozen-red hands and looked at her with hopeful eyes.
Much later, she learned why the venerable one testing her spiritual root had asked an additional question: "Your surname is Yin? Are you from the Yin clan of Feng County? Or did your parents give you any instructions?"
Only then did she begin to understand the rules of the cultivation world, the kind... rooted in worldly status.
They say the Great Dao is boundless, but some people are denied even the right to set foot upon it.
On her long journey home, she once heard someone sing:
The people suffer beneath the altar of despair, while the nobles atop it hold the reins of life.
They boil blood and roast flesh with savage eyes, then lament how hard life is for all.
Who gladly dons the bones of a slave, bending and bowing in sacrifice?
They wipe away tears in the wind, pity the wealthy, and wield iron fists against the poor and frail.
.
Later, when Yin Ruyi recalled what she would never forget in this life, it was probably that bitter winter when she knelt on the Stairway of Deliverance, seeking justice. Two immortals sat chatting face to face, deaf to the storms of the mortal world.
At sunset, when she returned empty-handed, the young man who had brewed tea for the immortals ran after her with a cloak and draped it over her shoulders.
When she asked his name, the young man pulled the hood over her head and said with a smile, "Want to repay me? There's no need. Walking alone through wind and snow is hard. Remember to protect yourself, miss. Go on home."
Looking back on her life, from her youthful determination to reach the clouds to her final breath, she remained attached to the wind and snow.
But she knew better than anyone that being trapped in wind and snow could never compare to walking alone in the spring sunshine.
Self-reliant junior sister x Cheerful and devious senior brother

Can you write some more extras? [It's changed] I want to see Baoying Xiao Pei's childhood sweetheart if line
Sure enough, the resurrection was related to Xuan Zhi, Xue Jingnian finally finished the funeral
I just found out that in the extra story, Xue Jingnian has been attending a funeral hahaha
Father and son kill each other, siblings harm each other
How could it be over? ! ! What's next for the head couple? ! Mu Wuhuang didn't explain it to anyone in the end! ! ! ! ! ! 😭 😭 😭 😭
Can we write a sequel about the male and female protagonists and the supporting characters? I've already written several chapters in a row [heartbroken]
Can you write more sweet stories 😭
The two extra chapters written by Xiao Pei are so good that I am still unsatisfied after reading them. The article is fluent. The author did not update it for a long time, but he wrote it so well in one update. It would be better to increase the update frequency
It's so perfect, Pei Xuanzhi and Yan Huanyue are 100% compatible, there is no nonsense CP
I really love this couple. Every time I can't find a novel to read, I will read the highlights of the two of them over and over again. The writing style is very delicate. After reading this episode, I feel a little more complete.
