I Want You

"The first time I saw you, I wanted you."

Shen He had been dead for over a decade. Jiang Qing thought she had forgotten all about him, but as she lay on the brink of death, she remembered with startling clarity the drunken words he had once blurted out.

Their married life had hardly been blissful. In the short year they were married, she had smashed three plates, sulked four times, and found fault with him at every turn.

Back when she was a lovestruck young girl, she imagined marrying a modest gentleman with a feather fan and silk robes, handsome and refined, with integrity written all over him.

At the very least, even if he lacked scholarly talent, he should be nine-tenths more handsome than other men.

Yet in the end, she married Shen He, a rough-and-tumble man who was eight points short on talent and nearly nine-tenths short on looks!

When she first heard they were to marry, Jiang Qing had sobbed into several handkerchiefs, fists clenched.

Looking back now, she still sometimes felt like cursing him.

But when she opened her eyes and found herself back on their wedding night, she couldn't bring herself to curse him as Shen He quietly had someone deliver a knot of hearts to her.

[The male lead is handsome. It's just that when the female lead first met him, he had a full beard and was burly.]
