Alhaitham, the current scribe of Sumeru's Akademiya, has a stable job and a nice home. Every day, he lives the peaceful life he's always wanted.
He clocks in on time and never stays a second past quitting time.
There are plenty of geniuses in Sumeru. Alhaitham considers himself an utterly ordinary academic among them.
And rather frail, too.
Until something decidedly unpeaceful suddenly intrudes on his quiet life.
For example... the words that suddenly appeared above a certain blond Traveler's head.
[Wooo, Alhaitham, my beautiful wife!]
He calmly closed his book and stepped aside to avoid the Traveler's path, only to see the Traveler take a detour to find Lesser Lord Kusanali.
That made sense.
The Traveler's romantic exploits were already famous throughout Teyvat.
The Grand Sage passing by glanced at him, and a line of text appeared over his head.
[I've got to figure out a way to get Alhaitham to play cards with me.]
When Cyno was about to speak to him, Alhaitham interrupted first. "I'm off the clock."
So he absolutely would not play cards.
It seemed he might play a round or two while at work, though.
Alhaitham was deeply troubled to discover that he could see other people's thoughts.
It had shattered his peaceful life.
.
Alhaitham was a controversial figure in Sumeru.
His deeds had sparked widespread discussion and speculation.
He had personally devised and taken part in a plan to save a god, then, after serving as Acting Grand Sage, had abruptly resigned instead of continuing in the role.
"Given Alhaitham's personality, could he be one of the Tsaritsa's Harbinger, Dottore's segments?"
"Not necessarily. Look at what he's wearing on his head. Could that be an upgraded Akasha?"
"Maybe he's an Akasha machine that became a spirit? Those glowing lines on his body could be transmission equipment!"
"Have you heard of Aranara?"
"I once saw Alhaitham's cowlick... It looked a lot like an Aranara!"
Alhaitham's response to all this was: ...
1. Alhaitham selfcest! The other Alhaitham is a Tree King retainer!
2. Two Travelers: one extremely scummy and one extremely Haitham-like, both the sort who call every character their wife without playing favorites. Lighthearted meme-fic.
3. No canon research, just my own headcanons. I'm completely letting loose.
