Clairo Krieps: recluse, heretic, and a dark mage whose existence has left countless wizards lamenting what might have been.
While experimenting with a new spell, he transmigrated. Unfortunately.
As he wondered where he was, something of unknown origin calling itself the System suddenly showed up, claiming it could help him recover his memories.
Convinced his memories were intact, Clairo accepted its offer with some skepticism.
And so began his new life: running into the handsome Wayne family when he went out, turning a corner and coming face-to-face with some green-haired maniac, and trying to conduct new magical experiments while the dark bat watched him like a hawk.
"Black mages don't need sleep!"
So declared the great heretic Clairo Krieps, before deciding to grab a midnight snack at the convenience store.
It had simply slipped his mind that black mages weren't the only ones who didn't need sleep. There were also the nocturnal black bat and his child-labor bird sidekicks, along with all the villains of Gotham.
After the kind neighbor Red Hood, munching on a baguette as he passed by, hauled him back to his apartment by the collar for the Nth time, Clairo began to wonder why going out for a sandwich always landed him in the middle of a battle between heroes and villains.
After watching Red Hood scare off a group of people with nothing but his presence yet again, Clairo stroked his chin and came up with a brilliant idea.
After all, people kept trying to rob him because he didn't look villainous enough! His neighbor looked like a proper villain, so nobody ever tried to rob him!
Red Hood, who spent every day desperately trying to keep his fragile neighbor safe: ?
After much soul-searching, Clairo put on the fearsome black cloak of a black mage and swaggered down the street. He marched into a convenience store, put a bill on the counter, and said in a low voice, "One deluxe sandwich, with an extra slice of ham."
Then he was gloriously hunted down by both Batman and the villains.
Batman, looking serious: I suspect this new guy in the black cloak is a new villain.
The villain, looking furious: Who are you?! Don't you know the first rule of Gotham villain etiquette is not to impersonate Batman?!
The fragile mage Clairo fled in every direction, his face filled with indescribable anguish. You Gothamites are all crazy!!!
Waaah, at least he still had his beautiful Brucie and the cheerful little reporter's shoulder to lean on.
The little reporter broke into a sweat, unsure whether to tell Krieps that the dark bat who chased him around all day was actually the very same person as the sweet, dear little prince he adored... B, say something already...
Tips: 1. The blurb was extensively revised on July 21, 2024. A screenshot has been saved.
2. No romance. The protagonist is a stubborn, unlucky guy who always picks C when given options A and B. The focus is on fun daily life with the Batfamily. Everyone speaks their mind, and things never get too angsty. Contains plenty of baseless, fictional rumors about Bat and Bruce, Superman and Batman, and other pairings.
3. My own take on the magic system. I made up all the magic, so don't overthink it.
4. The protagonist isn't a local. He doesn't know the plot, but he uses black magic and is a neutral troublemaker. He may mess with the villains and the B family for fun.
5. There will definitely be out-of-character moments. If that's not your thing, feel free to back out.
Theme: Even illiterate Gothamites can have a wonderful spring!
