There are two dogs in Qingye Alley.

One is He Zhi, and the other is the little yellow dog He Zhi keeps.

Everyone knows this, except for Chen Junchi, who just moved in.

The children in the alley have known this nursery rhyme since they were little:

“The dog in Qingye Alley bites everyone it sees. It has no shame, no skin, and not a penny to its name.”

The first time Chen Junchi sees the boy in the gray hoodie at the entrance to Qingye Alley, he can’t look away, can’t move his legs, can’t take another step.

He Zhi looks up at him, eyes half-lidded. His gaze falls on Chen Junchi’s clean, neatly pressed school uniform. He sounds uninterested and speaks brusquely. “I’m not begging for food or money. Take back that pitying look.”

When Chen Junchi doesn’t leave, He Zhi glances sideways at him. “You go to Qingye No. 1 High? A good student?”

At the time, Chen Junchi doesn’t understand what He Zhi means by a good student.

Later, He Zhi sends him away again. “Get lost, good student. Keep away from me.”

The time He Zhi leaves Qingye Alley on his own, Chen Junchi is the one who takes him in.

In a private room at the city hospital, he keeps watch night after night.

The person in the hospital bed is pale and weak, eyes shut tight, lips pressed together, dry and cracked.

Chen Junchi stands beside the bed, murmuring to himself.

“He Zhi, I’m the one who took you in. I’m still waiting to see you wag your tail at me.”

One day after waking up, He Zhi suddenly says something astonishing.

He says he wants to get into college and study.

Chen Junchi is so startled he thinks He Zhi has hurt his head. He gets up to press the call button beside the bed.

But He Zhi stops him.

His usual insolent tone is gone. He speaks slowly and earnestly, one word at a time. “Chen Junchi, I’m serious.”

Lin Xingchi’s eyes light up as he listens. Exclusive, first-hand photos and videos from a private event featuring a top-tier star can fetch an extremely high price.

He agrees without a second thought.

After that, Lin Xingchi receives several more invitations to photograph Qi Wu’s private schedules, and his account starts churning out viral posts.

Quite a few people grow curious about who’s behind the account.

Person A: “When I first followed him, he took photos of all kinds of celebrities. Now I open his profile and Qi Wu makes up 90% of it!”

Person B: “I followed him back then because he photographed my fave. Who would’ve thought that now my fave and Qi Wu are in the same production, but he hasn’t posted a single behind-the-scenes shot of my fave...”

Person C: “Has Qi Wu Studio already recruited the person behind the account?”

Person D: “This photographer has made a fortune off Qi Wu. He even managed to get inside the venue and take pictures when Qi Wu went overseas for Fashion Week [laughing through tears].”

Lin Xingchi feels that something isn’t right.

He’s just a small-time photographer making money off behind-the-scenes shots, so why is he in top-tier star Qi Wu’s supposedly very expensive mansion right now?

The man is lounging on an incredibly avant-garde sofa that Lin Xingchi can barely appreciate, his abs faintly visible beneath a pure black bathrobe. He speaks simply: “Take a picture.”

Lin Xingchi raises his phone with trembling hands. Facing the alluring face on the other side of the screen, he steadies himself and tries to prove that he’s a professional.

As it turns out, there’s no such thing as professionalism in this line of work.

His phone slips into the crack in the sofa, and Lin Xingchi personally experiences just how soft that avant-garde sofa is. Only then does he belatedly realize that he’s kissing the man.

Oh my god, big bro! How did I end up giving myself away while taking celebrity photos?!
