As a city lord with impure blood and no magic, Lian Chen was never thought much of before taking the position.
But he had an excellent aide.
Jun Tianxiao was a gentleman of impeccable character, as beautiful as jade.
He cooked longevity noodles for Lian Chen's birthday and gave him a large sum of money to help protect his people.
He even threw everything aside to accompany him when the Black Tortoise Emperor ordered him to lead an army of ten thousand against the infamous Lord of the Southern Kingdom.
Lian Chen thought his aide, Jun Tianxiao, was truly his best friend.
Kindhearted and righteous, with nothing to gain.
Lian Chen silently vowed never to let Jun Tianxiao down. If he had a bowl of rice, Jun Tianxiao would get a bowl of meat!
What Lian Chen didn't know was this:
As he sat at his desk reviewing official documents, countless eyes watched him from every angle.
When he fell asleep, strange black shadows wrapped tightly around him.
When he was injured, Jun Tianxiao treated his wounds. But Lian Chen always felt something slick and slimy on the injured spot on his back.
When he asked about it, Jun Tianxiao only smiled at him. “Aren't you just tired?”
Lian Chen thought Jun Tianxiao made a lot of sense, so he took his hand and thanked him. “Thanks for treating my wounds, Brother Jun. I'll always think of you as my best friend!”
But he didn't notice the smile vanish from Jun Tianxiao's face.
Until...
That day, he saw the true form of the legendary Lord of the Southern Kingdom.
Jun Tianxiao smiled at him as before. “City Lord Lian, you promised we'd share our fortunes. Why are you going back on your word?”
“How about becoming my consort, A-Chen?”
“Or I could be your city lord's husband.”
Top: free-spirited and carefree, but no saint; has a secret identity; true form is an inhuman being with many eyes, white hair, and tentacles; slightly Lovecraftian.
Bottom: blue-eyed, black-haired scholar-general and city lord; the true guardian deity; true form is a blue butterfly.
Please note:
1. The bottom starts out weak and grows stronger later. This is not a conventional leveling story.
2. The top and bottom are a one-on-one couple with mutual feelings. Not suitable for readers who are possessive about their favorite character.
