In their senior year of high school, on a sweltering summer day, a boy played basketball on the court.

A crowd of girls had gathered along the sidelines to watch the handsome boys. Chen Qingwo was among them.

Watching the boy gleam in the sunlight, she lost a game of truth or dare with her friend, rushed up to him, and asked for his contact information.

With everyone watching, Sang Ye gave it to her.

Three days passed, and Sang Ye still hadn't received a friend request from the girl.

Then Chen Qingwo came back and asked him for his contact information again.

Sang Ye: ...

Sweat slid down the boy's high nose bridge and over his sharply defined jaw. After finishing his game, he opened a soda with one hand, his long, distinct knuckles wrapped around the can.

He glanced casually at Chen Qingwo, who was asking for his contact information, and parted his lips. "No."

"No."

That was the first time Chen Qingwo left a lasting impression on Sang Ye.

2.

Instead of waiting for someone to confess, take the initiative yourself.

During the summer after the college entrance exam, Chen Qingwo wrote more than a dozen drafts of a love letter at home, waiting for a chance to give it to Sang Ye in person.

Under the shade of the trees, the boy never dared to look her in the eye. The girl had already slipped the letter into Sang Ye's bag without him noticing.

"I'm leaving."

Those were the first words Sang Ye said to Chen Qingwo.

"Goodbye."

Those were the last words Sang Ye said to Chen Qingwo.

And so, after a wild gust swept across the grassland of their youth, all that remained were traces of the wind, barren and chaotic.

At university, Chen Qingwo rejected countless admirers. Someone asked what kind of guy she liked.

The girl thought for a moment and replied, "Someone with long legs, I guess."

After losing another game of truth or dare with her roommates, Chen Qingwo was challenged to ask a handsome guy at a bar for his contact information.

The words came through her headphones:

You are my only one way.

When her eyes met the man's, Chen Qingwo froze.

Sang Ye strode over to her, lowered his head, and smiled. "I told you we'd meet again."

"The boy's father was a hero, but he was targeted for revenge. While everyone wanted to see that man rot in the dirt, Sang Ye walked into the same mire."

"A hero shouldn't be treated like a rat in the street."

"Sang Ye held Chen Qingwo's love letter in his hands. As he read the final line, Sang Ye began to cry. The boy's shoulders trembled slightly as the train he sat on sped toward the distance, like a journey with no end."

"Sang Ye, you will never fall."
