Akmon, a low-ranking demon, had recently encountered three strange things.
First, he was inexplicably captured and taken to the bottom of the Abyss, where he became a reserve Demon King.
Second, after finally making it to the surface, he saw a giant’s head rolling on the ground, elves turned into sharp-toothed monsters, and vampires and werewolves crossbreeding in chaos… Great. The world had already destroyed itself.
Third, while worrying about how to fulfill his duties as Demon King, he happened upon some ruins. He was told they had once been the home of the “King of the Otherkin.” If he completed a few tasks, he could gather the scattered otherkin and rebuild the entire royal court.
Is the king dead?
“Died protecting the otherkin.”
How?
“Sacrificed the light, burned his lifeblood, and broke off his own horns, wings, and ribs.”
The demon touched his damaged horn, his aching shoulder blades, and his eyes, which were constantly going blind. Could it really be such a coincidence?
There was no future in being a world-ending Demon King. He decided to change careers and become the King of the Otherkin instead.

Please read the guide before diving in:
1. Western fantasy magic. The pacing is a little slow at first, but please leave comments and don’t wait until it’s complete to read OvO
2. The protagonist isn’t ambitious. Something else is what drives him back to the throne.
3. Includes secret identities, world-building, and gods, but it’s not purely a secret identity or world-building story.

Here’s the blurb:
Weapons in the armory usually stay for three months. One weapon, however, waited there for three hundred years without anyone asking for it.
It wasn’t that Zhou Min didn’t want to leave. He was simply too expensive. The maintenance alone could burn through the wealth of an entire city in a few days. Besides, he was damaged, so buying him wouldn’t be worthwhile… He could only waste away the years here.
Fortunately, he turned out to be remarkably patient, and eventually a foolish young master with more money than sense came along.
The armory keeper coaxed and tricked him, forced the sale, and finally got the young master to buy Zhou Min for two copper coins, taking him home to use as a wood-chopping knife.
From then on, Zhou Min lived a heavenly life: a minor illness every three days, a serious illness every five, and a young master who treated him like a useless weakling. When his legs hurt, the young master rubbed them for him. When he couldn’t sleep, the young master coaxed him.
But the young master seemed to have a peerless idol, whom he talked about every day and reminisced over constantly, until Zhou Min’s ears were numb and he was thoroughly annoyed. He wanted nothing more than to beat that person to death and show him what true mastery looked like.
So Zhou Min raised an eyebrow and asked the young master what his idol was called.
“His surname is Zhou,” the young master said. “His name is Zhou Mushā.”
Zhou Min was stunned. Zhou Mushā was the name he’d used while roaming the martial world. Before he went mad and trained himself into a weapon, he really had been the best in the world.
…Zhou Min had meant to keep the truth from the young master. But in the blink of an eye, the whole world was thrown into turmoil. He was forced to draw his blade and became that untouchable Zhou Mushā once more.
The young master stared at him, looking a little out of his mind. “Are you going to use Zhou Mushā’s ‘Empty Cicada’ to chop wood? It’s a little chipped…”
“Come here and fix it for me.”
“?”
