No Escape

Huo Nansheng had long known what would happen if she provoked Huo Yinan. Still, she did it completely, and the result was that she could never escape. 1. Huo Nansheng was originally named Nansheng. When the Nan family fell apart overnight, she took her mother’s surname, Huo, and was brought to stay temporarily with the Huo family. She ended up staying for fifteen years. When she first arrived at the Huo home, Huo Nansheng looked up and saw a young man standing on the stairs. Handsome and refined, he had the air of a born superior, a heaven’s favorite. “He’s Huo Yinan, seven years older than you. You can call him big brother,” Mrs. Huo said. Huo Nansheng obediently greeted him. “Big brother.” All she got in return was a cold glance. His haughty eyes were utterly indifferent, as if no one else mattered. They passed each other by. 2. A clear divide separated Huo Nansheng and Huo Yinan. He stood at the very peak of wealth and fame, someone countless people looked up to. Huo Nansheng might call him big brother in public, but they weren’t actually related. After leaving the Huo family, she called him “Mr. Huo,” just like everyone else. Until one rainy night Half asleep, Huo Nansheng felt a warm touch on her face. Huo Yinan bent down and lifted her into his arms. “Why are you sleeping on the sofa?” Her eyelids were heavy with exhaustion as she asked, “Weren’t you supposed to be back the day after tomorrow?” Huo Yinan placed her on the bed and gazed out at the rainy night through the window. Slowly, he said, “Happy third anniversary, Shengsheng.” He smiled. Three years ago, on this very day, the night had been just like this: sultry and warm, with rain pouring down. The steady patter of rain fell outside, and inside the walls they had built around themselves. Heat and desire filled the room, and we lost ourselves in each other. - My upcoming novel, I Really Had My First Love Again, is the final book in the Intoxicated Dreams series. It’s Shang Congzhou’s story. If you’re interested, please add it to your collection. - Shang Congzhou had always known how to keep things in proportion when it came to relationships. When he met Qin Zhi again, they spoke alone in the hallway. “Why did you leave that morning without saying a word?” he asked. “Adults just take what they need from each other,” Qin Zhi said lightly, then gave a soft laugh. “You’re not going to take responsibility for me because of that night, are you?” “You’re the one who has to take responsibility for me, Qin Zhi,” Shang Congzhou said. And by taking responsibility, Shang Congzhou meant that the two of them would get married. - After they married, Shang Congzhou happened to find a photo from their high school days. It showed a boy and a girl. The boy was him, and the girl was his wife, Qin Zhi. He turned the photo over. On the back were a few lines in Qin Zhi’s handwriting: [I finally worked up the courage to take a picture with you, but you still can’t remember my name. That’s okay. Eighteen-year-old Qin Zhi only loves Shang Congzhou.] Theme: Love makes us better
