Xu Yi watched her ingratiating expression.
His mouth twitched. Fighting back his disgust, he pinched the letter between two fingers and took it home.
His feelings went from horrified, sure there had to be a catch, to tossing and turning, wrestling with himself, and then to reluctantly... maybe this wasn't entirely unacceptable?
It took a whole night.
When he'd finally prepared himself in 108 different ways, he lifted the corner of his mouth and opened the envelope as if granting her a favor. Inside, in a bold, sweeping hand that radiated arrogance even in the way the characters joined together, was a single line:
Don't fall for me. I'm just a legend!
That night, Xu Yi vomited three liters of blood and nearly died on the spot.

When the college entrance exam results came out, Cen Er beat Xu Yi and claimed the top score in the province.
At the teachers' farewell banquet,
A drunk Cen Er patted him on the shoulder. "Tell me, is there anything your daddy can't handle?"
Xu Yi scoffed. "What if there is?"
"Then I'll admit defeat!"
Cen Er challenged him: "From now on, I'll be your most loyal underling. I'll work like an ox and a horse for you, without a single complaint!"
"Love me."
Xu Yi snorted coldly, his tone provocative. "Can you do that?"
"…"
Cen Er saw the smug look on his face. Her mouth twitched, and before she could stop herself... she vomited three liters of wine on the spot.

Much later.
Cen Er had long since retired in triumph and was happily lying flat. Watching Xu Yi, a rising star at A University, repeatedly represent the school in competitions and collect patents by the armful, she exclaimed in bafflement:
"How did you lose to me on the college entrance exam back then?"
"Because of love."
Xu Yi lifted the corner of his mouth and shrugged helplessly. "It really does affect your studies."
