A Long Summer Romance

Shen Mingyi has always had a habit of picking up trash.

Anything from a mineral water bottle to a living person.

Shen Qinghe meets Shen Mingyi on a summer day in the pouring rain.

From then on, he has a new name, a master, and a home.

He watches her grow up from behind the counter of Jisheng Pharmacy. He sees her set off full of ambition, then return covered in scars, and feels both heartache and joy.

Shen Qinghe has always thought of Shen Mingyi as his younger sister. Later, though, their relationship crosses a line.

In a bedroom bathed in dim, ambiguous light, wind and rain play outside the window as their shadows overlap and tangle within, unwilling to part.

His movements are gentle, but his voice is stubborn. "Mingyi, who am I?"

Her eyes are flushed, her expression passionate and uninhibited. "You're Shen Qinghe, and you're mine. If you stay."

Later, the neighbors tease them, saying he's the live-in son-in-law of Jisheng Pharmacy, taking his wife's surname.

"The greatest kindness fate ever showed me was letting me meet you." - Shen Qinghe
