At sixteen, Gu Yuxi's life was on "easy" mode. Everything in the world came easily to her. Aside from thinking that some people around her were idiots, she lived freely and without a single complaint.
Even when she met Lin Yang, who had to stay in her room for a while because of family circumstances, she didn't think much of it. She greeted her warmly, "Hi, I hope we get along."
But all Gu Yuxi got in return was a cold look from Lin Yang.
Huh? What was that about?
How rude.
It wasn't until she saw Lin Yang's hearing aid lying on the floor that Gu Yuxi realized that life didn't come in just one mode.
Even so, she still wanted to prove to Lin Yang that no matter how "difficult" things were, if you were brave enough, you could still find treasure and a way to win.
So she began teaching Lin Yang how to pronounce words properly, encouraging her not to fear other people's stares and showing her how to be strong.
"Don't be scared." Even with a bandit's knife pressed to her neck, young Gu Yuxi remained completely calm. She mouthed to Lin Yang, "They're just a bunch of idiots. There's nothing to worry about."

Young Lin Yang had once seen the light.
But it vanished in an instant, and the timid girl hid herself in the darkness once more.
At thirty, now independent, she saw a familiar face walk through the door at the sound of the wind chimes. Her cool expression was suddenly overtaken by confusion. She hastily put on a mask and hid the hearing aid on her ear behind her long hair. She didn't want Gu Yuxi to recognize her, but she also wanted to seem "normal" in front of her.
In the little coffee shop, Gu Yuxi was still surrounded by people. Just as Lin Yang, left alone in the silence, was about to turn and hide behind the counter, her gaze met Gu Yuxi's bright eyes.
"Sorry, my students are being rowdy."
"I'll wait for you to get off work."
Watching the person in the distance clearly sign those words, with the same impish smile as always, Lin Yang's heart trembled.
The sunlight pierced the darkness again, dazzling and scorching, as if it would burn her.
But so what?
She had never been able to resist it anyway.
