The Trials of a Powerful Minister: Tempering the Sword

Cold, iron-fisted regent bottom x younger emperor top who bides his time and strikes back

Li Xingzhi: "I was appointed by the late emperor himself to assist with state affairs. I have devoted myself heart and soul, rising before dawn and retiring long after dark. All I have done is hone my sword."

Lu Yan said coldly, "A whetstone hones the sword, and the sword cleaves the whetstone."

Li Xingzhi: "Your Majesty, speak plainly."

Lu Yan: "I mean, I have mastered my lessons. From now on, Elder Ge, you needn't worry about the realm. Just take care of me."

Content warnings:

1. The couple love and fight each other, with plenty of angst and entanglement along the way.

2. Neither lead is perfect, and both have their flaws. The dynasty and setting are entirely fictional, with a chaotic mix of elements and plenty of melodrama. Don't overanalyze the history.

3. This won't be too long. The plan is 150,000 to 200,000 characters.

4. That's all I can think of for now.
