When Xue Yi was little, he once met a blind fortune-teller.
The blind man crossed his legs, blew out a smoke ring, and shook his head. "My young friend, your fate is unfortunate. You are destined to face three calamities."
Six-year-old Xue Yi: "What's a calamity?"
The blind man stubbed out his cigarette and sighed.
"First, the family calamity. Your fate is ill-starred, and you're destined to have no family. Second, the love calamity. Your chart marks you as a solitary star, so you're destined to be alone for life. And the third..."
"The Qing calamity?"
The blind man walked away carrying his half-immortal's banner, muttering, "How strange. What kind of calamity is that?"
Many years later, Xue Yi had grown up. He suddenly remembered what the blind man had said back then.
By that point, everything the man had predicted had come true.
Except for the third calamity...
The giant male snake who had named himself Xue Xiaoqing tossed a pillow at Xue Yi's face.

Xue Yi couldn't understand why, after being pushed into West Lake, he woke up able to see all sorts of bizarre things.
The starving ghost in the fridge: "Please, spare me some food. If you can't, let me have a bite of your body."
The water ghost by the bridge: "Your soul looks so pure. It would be perfect for taking my place in death."
The headless ghost beneath the tree: "Help me find my head, or I'll kill your whole family."
Eighteen-year-old Xue Yi: "Good thing I don't have a family."
Later, the boy who always liked to wear all kinds of green jackets stood up for Xue Yi against the students who bullied him, drove off the evil spirits who wanted him dead, and finally got justice for the parents he had lost too soon. He rooted out evil at every turn and protected Xue Yi all his life.
On the day they had no choice but to part, the young man in green stood tall. A gentle breeze swept through his green hair by West Lake as he gave Xue Yi a carefree smile, his rebellious eyes just as they had been when they first met.
He said, "Xue Yi, thank you for giving me a home."
