I Transmigrated to the Interstellar Era and Became a Mecha Master

After transmigrating to an interstellar era ruled by Sentinels and Guides, ordinary people, who make up just 0.02 percent of the population, are considered "defective" and are often abandoned at birth.

Shu Yao's new body was one of them.

He grew up in an orphanage on a remote planet, earned top marks in every subject, and dreamed of becoming a mecha designer.

His teachers and classmates all shook their heads, feeling sorry for him: no matter how hard an ordinary person tried, they could never get into a mecha-related program.

Shu Yao knew it, but he didn't want to give up.

The year he graduated from high school, Shu Yao heard some news. Anyone who used a mecha of their own design to make the regional top 100 in the Star River Battlefield League could get access to online lectures at the Federation's First University!

But there were no gaming pods usable by ordinary people for sale on their remote planet.

Just as he was at a loss, unable to find anyone to help, Shu Yao picked up an underage Sentinel who had been kicked out of his home by his stepmother.

Shu Yao: I'll take you in, but you have to compete using a mecha I designed.

Alexei: You really don't have to...

Shu Yao: Actually, I have a dream: to build mechas that ordinary people can pilot, too.

Alexei: (suddenly fired up) What else do you need? We'll do it together!

Shu Yao: ? (Why is a Sentinel excited about something like this... Never mind, at least someone can compete.)

They signed up hoping to make it to the regional semifinals. Before they knew it, they'd become league champions.

Important notes:

1. This is an interstellar setting. People graduate high school and come of age at 24. Shu Yao has already taken many elective courses in mecha design.

2. This expands on the interstellar world in the author's other novel, I Made the Protagonist of a Tragic Novel Turn His Fate Around. Some character relationships are retained, but the plot is entirely new, set in a peaceful world.

3. In I Made the Protagonist of a Tragic Novel Turn His Fate Around, Shu Yao was trapped in a marriage with another Sentinel after being framed. They had no real relationship, and that Sentinel was there to be humiliated. Alexei helps Shu Yao escape the marriage, and Shu Yao helps Alexei overcome the slander spread by his stepmother. That Sentinel won't appear in this story, or if he does, he'll just be a minor punching bag.
