Synopsis:
Zhao Xiaosi nervously twisted the handkerchief in her hands. Right, she should walk over to Mei Haozhi, check her injury, and show concern for her. That's what Zhang Yintao had done in her previous life.
Back then, she'd nearly gone mad with rage. She'd jumped off her horse and swung her riding crop at Mei Haozhi. Of course, she hadn't landed a single blow. Mei Haozhi had simply collapsed weakly into Zhang Yintao's arms, and he'd protected her with all his might.
He'd snapped Zhao Xiaosi's riding crop, then shoved her into a muddy puddle without a shred of consideration. All around her, people had whispered and laughed, leaving her utterly humiliated. If she got between a Zhang and a Mei again in this life, she'd be a dog.
Now Zhao Xiaosi could stay completely out of it, even watch them as if they were putting on a show. She was waiting with confidence for what came next, enjoying the advantage of knowing what was going to happen, when Zhang Yintao suddenly turned and walked toward her. His eyes brimmed with a smile, and his face was full of tenderness.
Zhao Xiaosi was stunned. She screamed inwardly: This is all wrong! It isn't supposed to happen like this! Don't come over here! I don't want anything to do with you ever again.
Zhang Yintao had a dream. In it, he truly lived out an entire lifetime. The person he'd always looked down on and never cared about became the one he could never have.
Thankfully, he was back. Heaven had given him another chance. Zhang Yintao was absolutely certain that, given Zhao Xiaosi's deep affection and infatuation with him, all he had to do was show her the slightest kindness and she'd come running to him like a puppy.
But he waited and waited, only to see Zhao Xiaosi joyfully run into someone else's arms.
