[Haikyuu!!] The Miya Twins Want to Confess

A short story about the Miya twins / 100,000-200,000 words / a sweet romance

-

The spring he started high school, Miya Osamu got separated from his brother at a festival and accidentally wandered into the archery dojo behind a shrine.

Step forward, steady yourself, nock the arrow, raise the bow, draw, aim, shoot, hold.

In the distance, the festival's lively bonfires cast a warm glow. The world was entranced, and her eyes reflected the flames, yet she seemed like no one from this place.

He stood frozen, as if time had leaped right over him. Miya Osamu instinctively held his breath. Then he heard a clear, crisp sound.

Gradually, it blended with the thunderous pounding of his heart in his ears.

Only later did he learn that sound was called "the twang of a bowstring."

-

Miya Atsumu realized his brother had been acting strangely lately. The main symptoms were spacing out and grinning to himself, and remaining perfectly calm when Atsumu hit him in the head with a volleyball and spoke to him.

And the number of times he went to the shrine was skyrocketing.

Seeing his brother's odd behavior start to affect him too, while the other stubbornly refused to explain what was going on, Miya Atsumu had a huge fight with him and stormed out into the rain. By some strange twist of fate, he ended up at the shrine Miya Osamu visited so often.

He heard it too, that crisp sound cutting through the steady patter of rain.

-

Before the arrow is released, the bow whispers to it, "Your freedom is my freedom."
