Beyond Fate, There Is Me

Who can escape fate? An unhappy childhood takes a lifetime to heal. Lin Shaocheng witnessed Gu Leqing at her most desperate, and saw how, little by little, she stood up again all on her own.

But he knew he could never be the light that saved her. They were the same kind of people, unable to break free of their past memories or find hope for the future, condemned to endure each day, one after another.

Could two equally damp, extinguished logs rub together and kindle a new flame? Above fate, there is only self-rescue.

In the end, we are not each other's salvation. I just want to save myself for your sake.

The first time Lin Shaocheng saw Gu Leqing was on a rainy night. He watched her stumble into the hospital and sit clutching her belly on a chair outside a hospital room, looking as pitiful as the pug he had raised long ago. So he had someone give her a piece of bread. He never expected that, in the days that followed, he would pass her food countless times.

The second time Lin Shaocheng saw her was at Anxin Nursing Home. He watched her try to appear composed as she made inquiries, and saw the eagerness in her heart and her financial desperation.

He never expected that their third meeting would be the day she admitted her father.

The first time Gu Leqing saw Lin Shaocheng was when he examined her father at the nursing home. He was gentle and patient, a very good doctor. It was just a bit of a waste for him to be working at a nursing home.

Still, it worked out well for her... father. It would have been terrible if he had ended up with a bad doctor.

She thought they would have nothing more than a doctor and a patient's family member relationship. But she never expected him to be there for every humiliating moment, quietly standing behind her whenever she was in pain, then offering her warm food.

A screenwriter who pours the hardships of life into her writing, and a nursing home doctor who smiles at the world while feeling desolate inside.

A journey of self-redemption, with a happy ending.
