An upbeat little peach blossom VS a seemingly aloof, secretly crazy man
After the flood passed through, the only tiled-roof house in the family was washed away. Tang Taohua, who couldn't read a single character, dug a keepsake her mother had given her before she died out of the mud. Armed with a sickle, she chopped wood all the way to Chang'an to find her betrothed.
Her betrothed came from a prestigious family. Carrying their marriage contract, she asked around and learned that he was currently on duty at the Court of Judicial Review.
So that day, she waited for her betrothed outside the Court of Judicial Review, where she caught sight of a stunningly handsome gentleman and was instantly struck with awe.
Before she could react, however, he brushed past her without giving her so much as a glance.
Tang Taohua let out a sigh, quickly pulled herself together, then rose onto her toes and waved to her betrothed.
Born into a distinguished family, Wang Chong had always thought highly of himself, and looked down especially on Xue Pin of the Court of Judicial Review.
As for his own prospective wife, who couldn't read a single character and had such crude manners, Wang Chong paid her even less attention. Whenever he saw her, he couldn't help finding her ridiculous.
But as time went by, he stood outside the Court of Judicial Review, watching Tang Taohua doze beside Xue Pin, and found himself wondering, against his will: Why can't she be my wife?
[Little Scene]
Tang Taohua could brew wine and chop wood. Back in Xianshui Village, everyone called her a good girl.
But after she came to the capital, everyone laughed at her, saying she was crude and unfit for refined company.
Tang Taohua disliked these people, but knew she ought to learn to read and write. She visited several teachers, but they all turned her away. Just as she was at a loss, the ever-arrogant Seventh Young Master Wang actually offered to teach her...
But...
One day, as the evening glow still lingered in the sky, Seventh Young Master Wang's long-fingered hand closed around her slender neck. He chuckled, "Want to learn how to write Xue Pin's name?"
His brows were full of icy disdain. Holding her hand, he wrote the two characters "Wang Chong" stroke by stroke on the rice paper.
