I Was a Mafia Executive, but Now I'm the Police Commissioner

[Main story complete] As everyone knows, Kanoe Akikawa is an executive in the Port Mafia. But one day, after being sent to Tokyo on a business trip, Kanoe Akikawa finds himself getting caught up in cases with increasing frequency. The classic three-way choice. Every case comes with a victim, a hat-wearing police officer, and a detective in a blue uniform. … Kanoe: “You probably won’t believe this, but that old guy accused me of being a suspect again.” Colleague No. 1: “Really? How did he accuse you?” Kanoe: “He asked where I was at the time of the murder. I told him I was watching a gang fight.” Colleague No. 2: “…And then?” Kanoe: “Then? Then the ID from my last mission fell out of my pocket, and I realized the identity they’d prepared for me to use in the negotiations was that of a police officer.” Colleague No. 1: “I suppose you didn’t realize you had a fake identity, either.” Kanoe: “Right, that’s one way to put it. I told him that the kids I know wouldn’t make the rookie mistake of leaving a body where anyone could find it. We’re not all idiots, after all. And that’s why a mission that should’ve taken me six months to complete took so long.” Colleague No. 2: “Get a grip. Those things have absolutely nothing to do with each other.” Kanoe: “They do. They all decided I was dangerous, so they chose to send me back to the police academy for reconditioning.” “So now I’m a real cop.” “Don’t worry, Mr. Mori! Once I’ve infiltrated the enemy and figured out their secrets, we can use them as leverage! Whether it’s a license to operate a superpower business or the entire Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, it’ll be a piece of cake!” N years later. Kanoe Akikawa sits in his office, staring at his new business card in silence. [Superintendent General, Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department] Was this what he meant by infiltrating the enemy? *Blurb archived 22.12.14 [Content warnings] ● The protagonist is written as universally disliked, but read as universally adored. ● No pairing in the main story; the bonus chapters pair him with Dazai. ● The entire Flags group survives. ● Fundamentally, this is a lighthearted, silly story with a “people keep misinterpreting things” trope. ● The timeline has been adjusted, but it won’t affect your reading. ● The protagonist has a very strange way of thinking and manages to kill everyone equally (?). He’s beautiful and powerful, but doesn’t think of himself as tragic, and I don’t consider him tragic either. (Whether you do is another matter; at any rate, his background is definitely not tragic.) ● The protagonist’s ability is extremely powerful. It has side effects and activation conditions, but the ability itself is so strong that there’s no room for it to grow. His character growth is limited to everything except his ability. ● Since Mori raised him, he’s very fond of Mori, but he won’t obey Mori unconditionally. (To quote Dazai, he thinks of Mori as something that belongs to him.) ● A hidden workaholic. ● He has no past before the age of five; the reason will be revealed through the hidden storyline. (His parents are not dead!! His background really isn’t tragic!) ● Though he’s sincere with his friends later on, as an executive he is absolutely loyal to the organization’s interests. ● He’s strangely obsessed with weapons. He likes them enough to sleep hugging a bomb, and sometimes ends up launching himself into the air. Up for preorder: A Kind of Justice No One Ever Imagined Blurb: Asuka Kazuya has a respected senior colleague. To save this missing senior, Asuka Kazuya volunteers to become an undercover agent. While on the job, he stops at nothing to earn the trust of the organization’s leader. Until, N years later, at negotiations between two organizations, Asuka Kazuya comes face to face with the senior who vanished long ago. Only then, standing there in silence, does Asuka Kazuya realize that his boss deceived him and sent him undercover into the wrong organization. “But that’s all right!” Asuka Kazuya raises his hand and swears in front of Sakaguchi Ango, who is still speechless. “I’ve already come up with the perfect escape plan. Given enough time, I’ll definitely bring this mission to a successful end!” The young man wears an expensive suit, his delicate features set in a determined expression, though his cuffs are stained crimson. Sakaguchi Ango, who only recently became an intelligence officer, suddenly gets a bad feeling. Asuka Kazuya: “Step one: assassinate the current executive and take his place to gain the chance to communicate with the boss.” Sakaguchi Ango: “…” Asuka Kazuya: “Step two: cut off the boss’s head and take over as leader of the organization.” Sakaguchi Ango: “…” Asuka Kazuya: “Step three: organize all the files and turn the entire Black Organization over to the authorities.” Sakaguchi Ango: “…” There it is: an undercover operation no one ever imagined. Sakaguchi Ango wearily looks away. “Asuka,” he says. “Do you remember you’re at least half a cop?” Asuka Kazuya: … Asuka Kazuya: “You’re right.” The conference room door opens behind them. In front of Dazai Osamu and Gin, who have just finished negotiations, Asuka Kazuya holds up a crayon drawing of a police badge and his little water gun. “Surrender immediately!” “I’m a police officer!” Gin: … As the saying goes, every organization has its own attention-seeker. As Dazai’s barely suppressed laughter grows increasingly unrestrained, Gin shuts his eyes, unable to bear it any longer. “Asuka Kazuya,” he says. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Theme: Growing through adversity
