As the procuratorate's resident beauty, Zhao Qingxun was assigned to play the prey in a joint investigation.

She put her hair in twin tails, wore a schoolgirl uniform, and infiltrated the enemy's den alone. Amid the gaudy lights and revelry, she finally managed to sit on the boss's lap.

The next second, the private-room door was kicked open. Several special police officers rushed in with their guns raised. "Police! Hands up!"

Zhao Qingxun was grabbed by the arm and pinned to the wall. She struggled to turn her head and frantically whispered, "Officer, actually, I'm, "

The man behind her was fully armed. All she could see were his calm, dark eyes. He pressed his gun to the back of her neck and said in a deep, cold voice, "Quiet."

Someone in the room called out to him, "Find anything, Brother Che?"

Worried her identity would be exposed, Zhao Qingxun nervously bit her lip. The breath against the back of her neck paused for a moment before he replied quietly, "Take her back first."

At the year-end celebration for the public security, procuratorate, and courts, Ji Huaiche lost a game and drew the question: When is your girlfriend at her prettiest?

He looked composed and righteous. "When she's wearing her school uniform."

The onlookers sighed. "Officer Ji is so pure-hearted. A high school romance, huh?"

Thinking of the pleated skirt she'd picked up from his bathroom that morning, Zhao Qingxun's fair cheeks flushed with indignation. That was not what he meant by a high school romance!

That evening, Ji Huaiche had a few drinks and left his ID in the car.

Zhao Qingxun brought it to his workplace. While waiting for him, she casually opened his police ID case, and a small portrait photo of herself in her high school uniform slipped out.

She stared down at her youthful face in the photo, frozen in shock. The tall, handsome silhouette of a man blocked the dim streetlight as he slowly crouched before her.

"Does an unsuccessful secret crush still count as a kind of romance, Prosecutor Zhao?"

--"The moment she walked toward me, I saw moonlight in the darkness of day."
