[In a nutshell: She can eat a lot, is strong, and knows how to catch seafood, but all she wants is to be a good camera operator]
To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, Watermelon TV launched its first major travel reality show, "The Wayfarer," on its own new media platform.
The station chief personally called in favors to invite a lineup of big names from the entertainment industry.
The day before filming, a rising young star suddenly bailed. Was the movie king's variety show debut really going to start with someone missing?
With filming about to begin, the chief director had no choice but to draft intern camera operator Lu Xiaoyu at the last minute.
To become the first fish in the sea bass family to land a proper job, Lu Xiaoyu gritted her teeth and agreed!
She never expected that, by sheer accident, she'd become the [Ultimate Variety Show Workhorse Fish].
Everyone else was baffled, and even Lu Xiaoyu couldn't understand it. She'd only gone to fill in at the last minute, so how had she ended up unable to turn back from this path?
After "The Wayfarer" wrapped, the movie king signed Lu Xiaoyu to his own agency, making her the first variety show staff member (and fish) in history to have a management company. Her job was simple: accompany the movie king's celebrity friends on variety shows...
She accompanied an evergreen TV Best Actor on a street food show. While he attracted customers outside the food truck, she worked the wok inside. Before the show had even finished airing, she had earned her chef's certificate...
She accompanied a celebrity's second-generation child on a cultural experience show, only to be forced to pledge that she'd get her associate degree upgraded to a bachelor's. After filming wrapped, Lu Xiaoyu hauled bricks at the station by day and struggled through her textbooks at night, under the watchful eyes of more than a million people.
At the end of the year, she lived up to everyone's expectations and successfully earned her bachelor's degree!
Fans from all sides came to join the fun, urging her to keep studying and never stop! There were still graduate school, a doctorate, and civil service exams ahead. Lu Xiaoyu cried as she became a better version of herself...
A family show had finally managed to book a top-tier star couple, but the pair were suddenly called away to film a patriotic movie. Unable to refuse the favor, they actually left Lu Xiaoyu to take their precious son and daughter to the shoot on her own. In her early twenties, Lu Xiaoyu acquired an exclusive skill that plenty of people wouldn't even have by the time they were forty!
This part-time job didn't just make fans envious. The celebrity friends' many devoted fans in the industry were just as jealous, and often chased her down by any means possible while she was on her regular shift!
In the end, every show figured out that it was better to bring this camera operator on board, even if it meant giving up a big-name star. After all, having Lu Xiaoyu meant getting N extras for the price of one, plus the chance to open a mystery box of celebrity guests anytime, anywhere!
When she received the Variety Show Personality of the Year award, Lu Xiaoyu was utterly bewildered. Who remembered that she was just a humble camera operator after all!!! o(╥﹏╥)o
