I Really Didn't Treat You as a Substitute

[Blurb]

The little demon System 520 and his demon Host broke up. They'd been through eighty-one small worlds together, but his Host dumped him.

Watching his Host leave without looking back, System 520 was furious.

Hmph! Fine, we're done! The next one will be better!

Then he plunged headfirst into the eighty-second world. But the space-time tunnel malfunctioned, sending him to the wrong place, and he dropped straight into a glass of wine.

Drenched in wine and tipsy, System 520 looked up at the owner of the glass. The man's face was exactly like his former Host's. So he gave his tail a flick...

You're the one! My new Host!

Even though it felt strange to see his former Host's face after they were bound, System 520 put his heart into his work and did his best to meet his targets.

His current Host was wonderful: gentle and endlessly indulgent, unlike his former Host, who always had a cold expression and spoke only a few words at a time.

He patted his little demon horns and stood proudly on his current Host's shoulder, tail held high.

Red roses are ten thousand times better than white roses!

System 520 harshly berated his former Host in his heart.

After completing another world mission, System 520 collected his reward and happily floated off to find his Host. But when he opened the front door, two identical-looking men stood there and spoke in unison:

"Fife, you're back."

System 520: "..."

System 520 was close to losing it. He'd been a lazy System, but somehow he'd become the System for two Hosts and had to do twice the work.

Could anything be more maddening?

System 520 hopped up and down. "Imuel, why are you still here? Didn't we already terminate our contract?"

Imuel's face remained impassive as he pinched one of System 520's demon horns. "Our contract is still in effect. We haven't terminated it."

Adomis took System 520 back into his arms with a tight smile. "Could you stop touching my System?"

System 520: ...I want to die.

Reader's guide:

1. The gong is split into two. Both Hosts are gongs. This is an unconventional System novel, with very few missions.

2. If it's not to your taste, you don't have to tell me qwq. Just go find a novel you'll like better.

3. Could I ask you to add it to your collection? [cat holding a rose.jpg]
