Alva woke with a start on the coffin lid. The electric shock sent pain lancing through him, while the terrifying nightmare clinging to the depths of his soul made him curl up instinctively. Desperate, he tried to cover his forehead, only to be startled by the bandages wrapped around his hand, now right before his eyes.

On the display stand, the noble statue of the Cat God held its chin high and looked down at him haughtily. Yet in that slightly averted gaze, he could discern a hint of pity, the compassion one shows to the wounded.

After confirming with the Apostle An that the rune bore the same meaning, the god's loving protection vanished completely. Without even needing to examine it closely, he could see that the orb in the scepter was no longer as bright as it used to be.

He straightened his robe. Today, in this sorrowful, dusty world, he would continue to diligently uphold the duties entrusted to him by the gods, provided that no unavoidable accident occurred.
