After Mu Qinghuai dies unexpectedly, his soul transmigrates to another world, the Continent of Myriad Lives, and comes back to life in the body of someone with the same name. The house is nearly empty, with holes in every wall, and the living conditions are nowhere near as good as those in the modern world.
Fortunately, the System from the game he used to play has come along with him. At least he isn't starting from nothing, and can manage to survive in this unfamiliar world.
On the Continent of Myriad Lives, the awakening of spiritual power brings life to all things. With enough ability, even a stone can be given intelligence and evolve various powers.
Mu Qinghuai thinks not only is the power system here fascinating, but so is the existence of ger, a third sex he has never encountered before.
In this world, he meets a ger who is wonderful in every way and perfectly matches his tastes. Though their circumstances are poor at the moment, he believes that with his own hard work, their lives will keep getting better, and he'll be able to marry him.
One day, Mu Qinghuai and Luo Yan are grilling food in a secret realm. They sprinkle on some cumin, and the spirit beasts in the realm go wild. The cultivators, not knowing what is going on, assume the pair have a rare treasure and leap out to rob them.
“What rare treasure? The spirit beasts are just hungry,” Mu Qinghuai explains gently.
The cultivators: “Who do you think you're fooling? Why would spirit beasts crave it if it weren't something valuable?”
“You can't reason with them. Wait here.” As he speaks, Luo Yan draws his sword and points it at the enemy.
Meanwhile, Mu Qinghuai watches his partner beat up the cultivators with perfect composure, grilling a few more skewers of pork belly along the way. He can't help it; Luo Yan loves pork belly.
Smiling, Mu Qinghuai spots someone launching a sneak attack and sends them flying with a blast of spiritual energy. Then he goes right back to grilling, unable to stop thinking that this world is terribly unfriendly to people like him who are focused on peaceful, everyday pursuits. Someone is always jumping out to fight and kill. Isn't it better to just live in peace?
