I’m Still a Try-Hard Side Character in the Detective Conan World Today

My new story next door is out! Come check out 72-Hour Death Loop with Hagi! Yuki Rina's livestreaming career is taking off. She's graduated from the Academy of Background Characters and landed a job at Cat* Live, just as she'd hoped. Cat* Live operates across countless worlds, and competition is fierce. Luckily, Rina managed to dig out a niche world from among countless planes of existence. Niche (crossed out) Low competition, lots of potential (check) Rina is short on hair and life experience, but after spending a few months here, she finally understands what a Conan-esque world is. Before the stream: Rina: Conan-esque? Did you mean to type that? Livestream chat: Huh? A world we've never seen before. This is pretty fresh. One week into the stream: Rina: I'll just stream the handsome guys at the police academy going about their day. Livestream chat: Oh, a pretty-boy world. You can't live off good looks forever. But wow, they're so handsome~ Later: Rina: Sorry, everyone. I was naive. Conan-esque isn't a typo. Livestream chat: Whoa, this is wild! So it's a mystery-solving world, but with action-movie levels of excitement. In a nutshell: the everyday life of a background character who accidentally wanders into a Conan-esque world and diligently does her job. [Watching the Police Academy Crew: A Background Character's Daily Life] 1. Two handsome guys are duking it out under the cherry blossoms. They turn and spot one of their classmates, then immediately stand at attention. The two handsome guys: We were just having a friendly chat. Rina: Yeah, I know. Carry on, I'll just watch. 2. Rina stands by the road, watching the top student at the police academy, a blond man with dark skin, help an old lady across the street. She sighs in admiration: What a heartwarming scene between the police and the people! A certain top student at the police academy: Didn't you trick me into doing this? 3. Rina has just finished her background-character assignment off campus. As soon as she gets back to school, she sees a few handsome guys sneaking around in a badly damaged white Mazda. Livestream chat: I'm ready for more! Little sis, follow them! The handsome guys: We just went for a little drive. [The Police Academy's Overachiever Daily Life] The police academy finally gets a day off. Classmate: Rina, I heard there's a mixer tonight. Want to come? Rina: Sure. (Thinking: Perfect, I have a mission at the mixer venue. Hehehe.) Livestream chat: How could a miserable wage slave possibly get a real day off? [Visiting a Certain Famous Water Plant] Rina: I can't believe a big star would come to a place like this. It clearly isn't a legitimate organization. I should talk her out of it. Livestream chat: So the company has pretty high standards. You need talent, but good looks matter too! Belmode/the Whiskey Group: ??? [The God of Death Makes an Appearance] Little Detective God of Death: I'm just an ordinary little kid. Rina: Say that again after you put away the Tranquilizer Dart in your hand. Yuki Rina just wants to be a good background character, but her livestream audience keeps making things difficult. They keep making her die of embarrassment and do all kinds of weird things. So, when she finally pieces together what kind of world this is, she is amazed to discover that she seems to have gotten caught up in the main storyline and can't get out anymore. Gotcha! Warnings: 1. My own take on the timeline. 2. The pairing is set: Rina x Zero. No investing in multiple love interests, and no harem. 3. The protagonist isn't a genius. She has personality flaws and grows over time. 4. Neither the protagonist nor her livestream viewers have watched Detective Conan. They're complete beginners to the Conan-esque world, and the livestream chat appears less often later on. 5. The story starts at the police academy. She doesn't join the organization. 6. The first dozen or so chapters may bother some readers. If it's not your thing, feel free to click away. 7. Being a detective is just a job. There's not much deduction. 8. The plot develops slowly. Finished story next door: I Married Hiro and Tried Desperately to Hide My Secret Identity The life of a senior high school teacher and Scotch from the liquor factory as a pretend couple. Theme: Hard work always pays off.
