Tie it up with a "chain" from childhood. Whenever it wants to bite its master, use the "chain" to break one of its bones. Give it a beating for every bite. Once every bone in its body has been broken at least once, the wolfhound will be trained.
Crueler than a wolf, more loyal than a dog. Whoever holds the "chain" is its master.
Shen Mo was trained into a shadow hound this way. In his third month as a shadow guard, he was sent to the snowy mountains in the far north to steal the recipe for a miraculous medicine. Not only did he fail his mission, he was captured himself.
The man who captured him was named Yu Chu, the master of Rouyun Mountain in the far northern snowfields. He was moody and ruthless, and especially loved testing medicines on the living.
After being trapped in the snowy mountains, Shen Mo was forced to swallow countless deadly poisons by Yu Chu. He was unable to live or die, and the three months he spent on Rouyun Mountain became the most agonizing period of his life, as well as the source of nightmares that haunted him night after night for the next seven years.
Later, he finally escaped the mountains, but the residual poison in his body remained. His health steadily declined, and he eventually became a lowly Mo-rank shadow guard, sold off at will and subjected to humiliation and abuse.
Fate had a cruel sense of humor. Just as his life was nearing its end, Shen Mo met the man named Yu Chu once again.
Even Yu Chu had forgotten how many years he'd lived on Rouyun Mountain. It was a very dull place, with nothing but snow stretching for thousands of miles and silent mountains.
Many years later, the last of Yu Chu's family still alive in this world died. The snowy mountains seemed emptier than ever. Day after day, he walked through the snow with a wine flask in hand, until one day, he dug a little mute boy out of the snow.
The little mute was disobedient, stole things, bit people, and loved to lie. He was a thoroughly naughty child, but none of that mattered. Yu Chu thought he could teach him to be good.
Yu Chu put his heart into teaching the little mute, but later the boy still left. He tricked Yu Chu out of a prescription and never came back.
No one had ever tricked Yu Chu before. The mute was the first.
