Two months after that, he is already accustomed to throwing on a coat in the middle of the night and personally going out to pack Wen Wanyi a bowl of sour soup from beyond the Third Ring Road.

Wen Wanyi objects. “Didn't we agree you'd only sleep in the spare room?”

Jiang Xushen replies, “It's a normal marital right to build intimacy.”

Her career in investment banking keeps climbing, and even Wen Wanyi, whose reputation was only just beginning to rise, sees her standing at work grow accordingly.

At a business banquet, the young heir of the Jiang family accompanies his wife and, in full view of everyone, helps her change her shoes and clothes. Someone asks who has been the backbone behind the Jiang family's rise over the years.

Jiang Xushen answers calmly, “Mrs. Jiang deserves the credit.”
