The Substitute Mute Girl

Chapters 1-8 have been rewritten. Chapter 8 onward is still being revised, so reading it straight through isn't recommended; later plot points will change considerably.

The entire novel is being rewritten. Once the rewrite is complete, it will replace the current version, and the chapter titles will be marked accordingly~

Shao Shiqing has been a substitute for eleven years.

In the end, she is supposed to die in Princess Jianing's place.

She is given a potion that takes away her voice. But instead of dying, she is mistaken for Princess Jianing and captured by the enemy, taken to the Regent's residence.

He tells her:

"From today on, you are my maid, A Ning. You will remain by my side."

"Princess Jianing no longer exists."

She survives, only to keep suffering humiliation in the princess's place.

He keeps her like a pet, teasing her when he is in a good mood and punishing her when he isn't.

Shao Shiqing doesn't care much. Staying alive, however miserably, is still living.

She thinks perhaps she can escape someday.

Careful with every step, she plots her way forward.

At last, the man lets down his guard and says he will marry a mute woman like her.

She turns around and sets the Regent's residence ablaze, burning his "A Ning" to death as well.

Then she hears that the Regent has gone mad since returning, searching for her across the land.

Later, Jianing, the female war god of Xijiang, bursts onto the scene, conquers fourteen cities, and rebuilds Xijiang.

When they meet on the battlefield, his eyes turn red.

He gazes toward the city wall, where a figure in gleaming silver armor stands, and calls to her: A Ning.

Shao Shiqing, wearing the exact same face, steps out from behind Jianing. Her voice is clear and cool:

"Regent, you've mistaken me for someone else."

Then,

Her bow draws taut as the full moon, her arrow shoots like a shooting star, aimed straight at his throat.

The other person sends her a message: "Hello, Master. Would you prefer cash or spiritual treasures?"

They meet for the first time.

Each has their own agenda, and both try to skip the bill. The Fragrant Heaven House puts them on its wanted list for a month.

When they meet again,

"Stop chasing me! I'll pay!"

"No! I'll pay! Let me!"

Afterward, the penniless master and disciple are both moved to tears by the other's warmth and generosity.

When it rains, it pours. Yun Miao needs a hundred thousand spirit stones for her research.

The poor master and disciple open the Spiritwater Mirror's mission board at the same time.

A moment later,

Yun Miao: "Don't worry, good disciple. Your master has found a way to get the funding. I just need you to make a small contribution."

Him: "What a coincidence. So have I."

"Mission: Give your disciple a hundred thousand spirit stones, then stab them. Accepted by Yun Juan Yun Shu."

"Mission: Give your Dao companion a hundred thousand spirit stones, then have them stab you. Accepted by Good Luck Lotus."
