One day, Shen Quan suddenly realizes that he lives in the world of a novel. He's an anonymous passerby, while all three of his friends are criminals from novels.
Friend A is the male lead of a domineering CEO novel. The female lead doesn't love him, so he breaks half the laws in the criminal code and finally wins her over.
Friend B is the male lead of a body-double romance. He forces the female lead to donate a kidney to his white moonlight, and only regrets it after she dies.
Friend C is the villain in a danmei entertainment-industry novel. Unable to win the one he loves, he tries to die alongside the love interest, and ends up behind bars.
They used to be pretty normal, so how did they all become such freaks? Shen Quan can't figure it out. The one thing he's grateful for is that Pei Wenjing, his fourth friend, is still a normal, law-abiding person.
Shen Quan feels it's his duty to steer these dumbasses back onto the right path. So he keeps an eye on them, corrects A's misguided views on love, rescues an innocent female lead from B, and tells C that there are plenty of fish in the sea, so why obsess over one person?
After painstakingly getting the three of them back on track, Shen Quan looks at Pei Wenjing and can't help sighing, "You're still the best. So easy to deal with."
Pei Wenjing is the son of a wealthy family, but he's incredibly kind. When Shen Quan used to do homework, Pei Wenjing would hand him a pen. When he got into trouble, Pei Wenjing would take the blame. Now, when he's being beaten up, Pei Wenjing breaks up the fight. When rumors about him spread, Pei Wenjing clears them up.
What's more, Pei Wenjing only has eyes for work. He even finds looking at other people a nuisance, ruling out from the start any chance of him breaking the law for love.
At a friend's wedding, Shen Quan is lounging like a lazy fish in the lounge.
Pei Wenjing walks in, locks the door, grabs his wrist with reddened eyes, and says in a voice edged with madness, "I don't want to be your friend. I'll do whatever it takes to have you."
How did he go evil out of nowhere?! Is craziness contagious? Can Shen Quan still run for it?!
Reader's guide:
One-on-one, both leads' first relationship.
Cold and reserved, notoriously hypocritical, a business tycoon who turns twisted after holding it in too long x a cheerful, optimistic, healing-type fairy-tale author who's incredibly slow to pick up on romance
There are no criminals in this story! Everyone is a good, law-abiding citizen!
The male lead is Pei Wenjing. The other three friends are just friends! This isn't a harem story, so there will be secondary couples. They mostly come about as the protagonist helps people, and they also affect the main couple's relationship.
I'll keep the secondary couples' screen time under control, but I can't avoid writing about them.
There will be a little entertainment-industry content.
Theme: Learn to love, and you'll be able to treat yourself and others with kindness.
