[Forced Possession]
After her father failed in his uprising, Dugu Yue was taken as a prisoner of war to the enemy kingdom. Since her mother was a princess sent there for a political marriage, Crown Prince Helan Jin brought her into the Eastern Palace, where she lived for ten years.
Yue had no home, and came to see Helan Jin as her only family.
She was grateful to and in awe of the man who was, by title, her elder brother. But because of their status, she rarely bothered him.
Prisoners of war were slaves. To gain her freedom, she had to marry a noble.
Yue took a liking to one of Helan Jin's close aides. To make sure the match went smoothly, she secretly kept in touch with the man while doing everything she could to please Helan Jin.
She served him tea and water, ground his ink, cleaned his brushes, and showed him every kindness.
At last, the usually cold and aloof Helan Jin would sometimes gaze at her, his eyes lingering.
Yue thought the time had come.
"Elder Brother Crown Prince, there's someone I like."
One day, Yue spoke with hopeful, anxious care.
Helan Jin remained composed, raising his eyes to look at her, his gaze unreadable.
But Yue looked past him at the aide behind him, blushed, and reached for the man's hand. Kneeling before Helan Jin, she said, "Please give us your blessing, Elder Brother Crown Prince."
Helan Jin's eyes suddenly darkened.
Helan Jin had only looked after Dugu Yue because it was convenient.
Later, when she deliberately grew close to him and asked for his protection, Helan Jin went from indifferently ignoring her to accepting it as routine.
He thought, since he had protected her for ten years, there was no harm in protecting her for the rest of her life.
Until the day she asked him to arrange her marriage to a traitor.
Ha. So it had all been an act.
On their wedding night, the red candles cast a romantic glow.
Yue waited for her husband, but the one who came was Helan Jin, clad in armor, mounted on horseback, and wielding a sword.
With the bloodied tip of his sword, he lifted her veil. His hand, cool as jade, touched her face and wiped away her trembling tears.
"Didn't your brother tell you that you can't marry?"
"Why are you always so disobedient, Yue?"
