We Owe Each Other

[Older man] [Angst]

In high school, Tan Zhiyao was always finding ways to bully Yu Cheng.

He deliberately tore up Yu Cheng's test papers, spilled milk on his chair, and sneered that he was the son of a mistress.

Yu Cheng never fought back.

It wasn't until Tan Zhiyao smashed the cup Yu Cheng treasured most that Yu Cheng finally got angry with him.

In everyone's eyes, Tan Zhiyao was rebellious and vicious, while Yu Cheng, who endured it all in silence, was so pitiful.

But so what?

Tan Zhiyao thought Yu Cheng owed him this. He deserved everything that was happening to him.

Later, Tan Zhiyao left home and swore he would never have anything to do with his family again.

But without the protection of his family, things didn't go well for him.

Tan Zhiyao never contacted Yu Cheng, and he didn't want to see him again.

As luck would have it, Yu Cheng appeared when Tan Zhiyao was at his most miserable.

Tan Zhiyao thought Yu Cheng would look on coldly. After all, the person who had bullied him was finally getting what he deserved.

The truth was unexpected.

Yu Cheng dealt with his troubles himself and draped his coat over him, just as he had in the past.

Tan Zhiyao clutched the coat. Just as Yu Cheng was about to turn and leave, he spoke in a hoarse voice: "Brother."

It was the first time Tan Zhiyao had ever called him that.

Yu Cheng stopped and looked at him, his gaze deep and unreadable.

After a long while, Tan Zhiyao released his lips, bitten pale, and said softly, "Happy birthday."

The pursuer and the pursued are not related by blood and are not registered in the same household.

Happy ending.
