[The sweetness that comes later]
1.
When news broke that Gu Ruyin, the cool and alluring beauty, was getting married, everyone was stunned.
A month later, one of her colleagues couldn't resist teasing her. "So, how's married life?"
Gu Ruyin answered nonchalantly, "Nothing special. We got divorced last week."
Her colleagues: "...?"

Recently, the bureau was assigned a mission to seal off and protect an archaeological site. Word was that an ancient tomb had been unearthed in the mountains behind the village, and several archaeology experts had arrived.
But the team noticed that their captain was uncharacteristically giving one of the female experts plenty of leeway. Everyone figured something was going on.
It wasn't until an accident occurred that the team questioned them as part of the procedure.
"Bian Jin, do you know Ms. Gu?"
"I do."
"What is your relationship?"
The man, leaning back in his chair with his arms folded, looked up at them and replied, "We're divorced."

When Bian Jin disappeared without a trace all those years ago, Gu Ruyin thought he was dead. She never expected to run into him in this remote little mountain village.
She thought they could simply leave each other alone and act like strangers.
But things didn't go as planned, and she couldn't keep her pride in check.
"Bian Jin, I don't go back to old flames."
Gu Ruyin stood on the high steps, looking down at him with an imperious air. "Unless you give me a reason, I might consider it."
Bian Jin held a cigarette between his teeth and glanced at the safe distance between them. A smile curled at his lips. "Then come here. I'll tell you myself."
