*The sea hare is also called a sea slug.
The sea-hare spirit Bai Yu had only taken a nap, but when he woke, the world had changed.
Plants had become scarce, and the oxygen in the air had grown thin. The humans who remained on Blue Star were fighting each other over a canister of pure oxygen.
Meanwhile, humans beyond Blue Star endured the gases of alien worlds. Their bodies had evolved, but without regular oxygen purification, they suffered terribly.
As a little sea hare who could produce oxygen, Bai Yu knew he was in danger, so he found himself a little sidekick.
His sidekick was blind in one eye, but handsome and good at fighting. Bai Yu was very pleased with him.
Under Bai Yu's guidance, Blue Star flourished, but Bai Yu was unhappy: he'd lost his little sidekick.
Later
The handsome, unsociable interstellar general held him tenderly and said, "I read in an ancient book that sea hares are hermaphrodites. Could we confirm that?"
