The Senior Disciple Refuses the Angst Novel Script

My new novel, Hong Kong Cop: Fortune-Telling to Solve Cases [The Nineties], is a 1990s crime-investigation story told in standalone cases. It's updating now on my profile!

[How a Powerful Doomsday Cultivator Transmigrates into a Book and Tears Up the Script]

Yu Jinchao survived for hundreds of years in a cultivation world ravaged by evil spirits. In the end, she died beneath the final tribulation lightning bolt before ascending. As her remnant soul was about to vanish, something called the System found her, carrying a storybook.

The System promised to bring her back to life, on the condition that she first play out the life of the heroine in an old-fashioned tragic romance, who shared her name.

According to the story, she was to become entangled in love and hate with her master, the foremost swordsman, an ancient beast king, and a natural-born demon lord. After giving them everything she had and helping them achieve their desires, she would bear a body covered in wounds and the condemnation of history. At a time when the cultivation world was on the brink of destruction, she would sacrifice herself to take the ultimate villain down with her, saving all living beings.

After her death, these pillars of the cultivation world would be consumed by remorse, spending the rest of their lives protecting the world she had given her life to preserve.

"That's pretty interesting," Yu Jinchao said, offering the story a fair appraisal.

The System said, "Host, you need to be seriously wounded here and rescued by your master, so he can later dig out your spiritual root and extract your white moonlight's soul."

Yu Jinchao nodded, split an evil spirit open with her sword, gathered spirit plants to make medicine, and not only kept her spiritual root intact, but extracted the soul as well.

The System said, "She will be your future Fifth Junior Sister. She'll join your master's sect and become the vessel he uses to revive his white moonlight."

Yu Jinchao nodded, then whisked the Fifth Junior Sister away, tore off her master's hypocritical mask, and dragged him down from his altar.

Fifth Junior Sister: "Big Sister is so wonderful. Of course I want to become her disciple."

Later, the System said, "Host, he is your fiance. You must help him become the foremost swordsman, admired by countless people."

Yu Jinchao nodded, tore up the engagement contract, and with a single dazzling strike shook the world. She claimed the title of foremost swordsman, unmatched for a century, and stood at the summit, celebrated by all.

The System said, "Your Second Junior Brother will become a foil to your fiance. His jealousy over the title of foremost swordsman will become an obsession, turning him into a walking killing machine."

Yu Jinchao didn't even nod. She kept training her Second Junior Brother with a wooden stick. He trained with total focus, terrified that one wrong move would earn him another whack.

Second Junior Brother: "Jealous of Big Sister? I don't want to die that badly."

There was also the Fourth Junior Brother, who was destined to have his spirit beast bloodline awakened, become a calamity-bringing monster, and be slain by the beast king, and the Third Junior Sister, who was fated to lose control of her dual-cultivation techniques and become a demoness forever controlled by the demon lord.

But in reality, the beast king became Yu Jinchao's enforcer, and the demon lord got beaten so badly he didn't dare set foot in the Five Provinces again.

Third Junior Sister and Fourth Junior Brother: "We'll protect the best Big Sister in the world."

Sword in hand, Yu Jinchao traveled across the Three Rivers and Five Provinces, banishing evil spirits and helping the people. She never stopped.

And in this life, protected by Yu Jinchao, the junior disciples who were destined to become villains in the storybook lived lives that shone brightly.

"The sword in your hand should protect the people who deserve it."

"With my sword in hand, I can face the world with a clear conscience."

Much, much later, the System looked at the plot, now changed beyond recognition, and the tragic-romance points that had accumulated to an astronomical amount. It finally understood. "So 'tragic' can be a verb!"

Reading Guide

1. A customized level-up power fantasy focused on the heroine's career. The heroine's golden finger is ridiculously powerful. This is my own take on cultivation, with tons of original worldbuilding.

2. I'm not good at writing romance. The focus is on love and hate, and I believe feelings forged through fighting are the strongest.

3. One-on-one romance, both leads have no prior partners, happy ending.

4. Standard cultivation levels: Qi Refining, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, Spirit Transformation, Mahayana, Tribulation Transcendence, Ascension.

5. Remember to keep me somewhere in your collection where the sunlight can reach. Let me grow in peace, and I'll bloom all by myself!

New novel: Hong Kong Cop: Fortune-Telling to Solve Cases [The Nineties]. Blurb:

The master fortune-teller of the crime squad, the case-solving expert of the feng shui world.

Chen Wenya, the foremost mystic master of the 21st century, sacrificed herself in a formation to protect all living beings. When she opened her eyes again, she was a rookie police officer in 1990s Hong Kong.

She had top marks, but was assigned to the legendary "that police station." There were no murder cases for her to work on and no chance of promotion. Being sent there after graduation was no different from exile to the frontier.

As the whole station happily sank into a retirement-home atmosphere, Chen Wenya pulled out her compass and decided to step up.

"If no murder cases come to us, we'll go find them ourselves."

Her colleagues watched her hold a compass and play fortune-teller in a police uniform, laughing that she had lost her mind.

Then, while mediating a dispute between neighbors, she found a headless woman's corpse in a tenement building.

A dispute within a wealthy family led to a series of bloody murders.

A feng shui puzzle at a village house in Pak Sha O exposed a major human trafficking and murder case.

A granny who paid a fortune to have a child and was swindled led them to a criminal ring raising spirit children.

Everyone's jaws dropped. "Seriously, Master? You're actually doing this?"

From then on, "that police station" became the star station with the highest case-solving rate in Hong Kong. Promotions and pay raises came easy.

A Little Scene

Yuan Jialang saw Chen Wenya surrounded by reporters and wealthy people, then strode in front of the cameras. "Master Chen, why don't you tell my fortune in love first?"

Chen Wenya gave him a knowing smile. "Officer Yuan's destined love? It's right under your nose."

One message sent shockwaves through both worlds.

The next day, the Oriental Daily ran a sensational headline:

"Mystic CID Partners" turn their act into reality?! Fortune-telling master and sharpshooting officer reveal their romance!

Theme: The Way of Heaven is put into practice in the heart.
