Raised a Little One

Five-year-old Youyou can't speak. His father resents him and divorces his mother, so Youyou goes with her to the old apartment complex where his maternal grandparents live. There, he meets Zhuozhuo, a boy with no father to love him and no mother to care for him. Zhuozhuo is three years older. His eyes are bright and dark, and his expression is stubborn. While the other kids have a blast at the playground, he carries a plastic bag and rummages through trash cans for bottles and cans, as well as collecting cardboard people have left in the hallways. But no child dares mock him to his face, because he looks as fierce as a little wolf cub. If you mutter something nasty, he'll pounce on you and bite you to death.

Some people may be small, but one look in their eyes is enough to make you think twice.

Youyou is loved by his maternal grandparents and his mother. He looks harmless, with fair, luminous skin and beautiful eyes, like a little jade doll. But since he can't speak and has never said a word, some kids take advantage of the times when no adults are nearby to mock him, calling him a mute who'll never get married, sticking their tongues out at him, and shoving him around.

When Zhuozhuo sees this, he chases the kids away. Once he's done, he doesn't pay Youyou any mind. He turns and goes right back to rummaging through the trash for bottles.

Zhuozhuo lives in the same complex, in the next building over, and is being raised by his aunt.

After Zhuozhuo helps him, Youyou follows him around whenever he can, helping him collect bottles.

Later, Zhuozhuo is about to start high school, but he doesn't have enough money for tuition or living expenses.

Youyou gives him a large sum from his overflowing piggy bank.

"Think of it as a loan," Youyou writes in his notebook and shows him.
