1970s: Village Tyrant Vs. Village Beauty

He Zhi Shen's biggest takeaway from married life was that he finally got to eat meat.

Su Linlin's biggest takeaway from married life was also that she finally got to eat meat, the real kind.

Ten years ago, Su Linlin followed her parents to Minle Village when they were sent to the countryside for reeducation. Ten years later, she married He Zhi Shen, the village bully hated, loathed, and feared by everyone in Minle Village.

The villagers all expected their home to be a complete mess, but instead, they watched the couple's life get better and better.

While others ate bran, they ate meat. When the others finally managed to get meat, He Zhi Shen was already figuring out how to give Su Linlin, who was tired of pork, something different.

When word came that the college entrance exams were being reinstated, everyone assumed Su Linlin would return to the city with her parents, who had gotten their jobs back. The chickens, ducks, and fish He Zhi Shen had caught in the mountains over the past two years would all have been for nothing, along with all his effort and affection.

After the exams, the village loudspeaker announcer excitedly declared, "Congratulations to Comrade He Zhi Shen on being admitted to a university in the capital!"

The villagers looked at one another. Was this really the He Zhi Shen they knew? Wasn't he illiterate?

After returning to the city, Su Linlin went to the train station to meet He Zhi Shen. She said coyly, "Didn't you say you weren't sure you could get into the same university as me?"

He Zhi Shen put an arm around his lovely wife. "I followed your father's advice: a person should learn to hide their talents."
