Chu Shenglai had been a pampered young lady for eighteen years.

After finally getting into college and escaping her family's clutches, she never expected to fall prey to a charity event organized by the student council.

There were all kinds of charity activities, and the flyers covered a whole table. After looking through them, she picked one: "Be Your Eyes."

The event paired student council members with students at a school for the blind to offer support. This included, but wasn't limited to, making voice calls, reading stories to blind students, and taking part in in-person activities at the school.

Chu Shenglai scanned the list of students she could be paired with, then settled on someone named Lin Jiaqing.

During their first voice call, Chu Shenglai was bored out of her mind. But the voice on the other end was gentle. "Hello, A-Lai."

Chu Shenglai was like a melon suddenly cracked over the head. She froze on the spot.

At their second meeting, other volunteers were still reading stories over the phone or heading to the school to help with activities. Chu Shenglai did things differently.

She went straight to Lin Jiaqing's home, ate the meal Lin Jiaqing had cooked for her, and listened to her bedtime story. After bumping her head, she even got a loving puff of air to soothe it.

Chu Shenglai thought: Interesting.

Lin Jiaqing thought: Interesting.

On the year's hottest girl group survival show, Chi Liang barely made the cut, debuting in last place.

The production team thought the show needed more buzz, so they invited Gu Yanyuan, a newly crowned Best Actress, to appear as a special guest.

Millions watched the livestream as the elegant actress in a long dress hugged the seven girls one by one.

When she was about to reach Chi Liang, she somehow twisted her ankle.

The whole audience held its breath at the actress's cry of surprise.

Quick as a flash, Chi Liang wrapped an arm around Gu Yanyuan's waist and pulled her into her arms.

Once Gu Yanyuan was steady on her feet, leaning on Chi Liang's shoulder, Chi Liang politely let go.

Later, fans edited and pieced together those few seconds in every way imaginable, forcing Gu Yanyuan and Chi Liang into the most eye-catching older-woman/younger-woman pairing in the lesbian fandom in the past three years.

Then someone released another video.

In a blind spot missed by every camera, the actress whose waist Chi Liang had held lowered her head and smiled with her lip between her teeth.

Ship fans: We said they were real! Hurry up and make it happen already!

Chi Liang: You were already making a scene over me the first time we met.

Gu Yanyuan: Physical contact achievement unlocked!

Series: By the Old Road

Everyone in the industry was talking.

An Zhi, the newly crowned Best Actress who shot to fame by starring in lesbian films, supposedly liked women in real life, too.

Some said she liked her co-star in her first film, a pretty but talentless rising star.

Others said she liked a major star from the same school, an actress with exceptional talent.

Only An Zhi knew she couldn't like either of them.

Because she was Shi Pinglan's lover.

The whole world was saying that Shi Pinglan, the entertainment mogul, was untouchable in the industry and had improper relationships with countless actresses.

At first, An Zhi believed it, too.

After all, when Shi Pinglan had tossed her an agreement that was supposedly a business deal but was really a kept-lover arrangement, she had looked far too practiced.

But An Zhi later learned that, after all the comings and goings, she was the only one left by Shi Pinglan's side.

That heartless old woman, with nothing but dirty tricks up her sleeve, had actually meant it when she said she loved her.
