Reborn: No Longer a Cannon-Fodder Female Lead

[Dear readers, this story is an old project being revised. It was submitted for a ranking list years ago, but when I tried to submit it yesterday, I found that it was no longer eligible. So I've opened a new page. Please head over there!]

Wan Wan was a little lucky carp, and the only lucky carp in her family.

Just as she was about to leap through the Dragon Gate and transform into a dragon, she was struck dead by eighty-one bolts of heavenly lightning.

Before dying, she prayed that if she could be reborn and no longer be an orphan, she would be willing to live an ordinary life, even if it was hard.

Then she was reborn into her first life.

In that life, her mother died in childbirth, and her father died falling down a mountain while trying to pay for her treatment. From then on, she was branded a jinx. At ten, she was sold into the mountains as a child bride to an old bachelor, who beat her to death within a year. There wasn't a single unbruised spot on her body when she died.

After returning to life, she learned that she was the cannon-fodder female supporting character in a period novel whose fortune had been stolen. Her whole life had been devoted to paving the way for the heroine to marry into a wealthy family.

Everyone said the eldest son of the Su family was pitiful. His parents had never loved him, and he had been kicked out of the family and given nothing.

Everyone waited to laugh at him, certain that before long, the eldest Su son would come crying back to the old family home for help.

The heroine, who had transmigrated into the book, thought so too. In this life, everything belonging to the eldest branch of the family would be hers.

But she waited and waited, until the eldest branch's life kept getting better and better. She watched Wan Wan eat eggs, drink malted milk, and wear princess dresses every day. She watched Wan Wan grow up and marry into a wealthy family, becoming even more glorious than in her previous life.

The heroine was at a loss for tears. Why had things turned out this way? They weren't supposed to.

This life was clearly supposed to be mine.
