The little monsters on the mountain were at a loss. How were they supposed to raise a human baby? After discussing it, the monsters decided to go to a human village to learn how to grow crops, weave cloth, and care for a child. They also had to keep the temple’s incense burning for their little master. Disguised as a family, they carried the tiny master down the mountain and boldly followed a woman into her courtyard. They temporarily mooched off her, getting milk, learning to cook, and scrimping and saving to build a house for little Yun Shan. The monsters hurried to the villager’s house that very night and discovered the well had been dug too shallow. They rolled up their sleeves, changed into their true forms, and dug right there. Two more people ran out of a house and fired at the crowd chasing them. The monsters rushed down the mountain. When they saw that the pursuers all had bluish faces and nothing but black pupils in their eyes, they immediately realized something was wrong. Hua Qi grabbed Yun Shan and swung him onto his back, shouting, “They’re dead!” The overpowering stench of decay came from them. “Hey, where are you guys from?” one of the men being chased asked curiously. After shaking off the dead, only two normal-looking humans remained. But they weren’t exactly acting normal either. Both seemed agitated. “I’ve been bitten,” one said. “Me too,” said the other. “Damn it, we’re done for.” The first man raised his gun to his head. “Calm down,” the second man stopped him. “Think about our families.” Tuotuo frowned. “What’s wrong with you?” The human survivors told the monsters about some unfamiliar things: zombies, blue crystals, Haiyan City, mutations... The monsters looked at one another, unsure what had happened to the human world. “You have to go to Haiyan City,” the humans said. “It’s the only surviving human base.” Theme: Overcome hardship and work hard to live.
