Everyone at the hospital knew that Zhong Chengying and Song Sili were mortal enemies, but nobody knew why.

One eyewitness claimed: At the time, Director Zhong and Director Song were slamming the table and arguing in the administrative office. Even the staff from the medical affairs department couldn't pull them apart!

Onlookers: What were they arguing about?

Eyewitness: Director Zhong called Director Song cold and heartless, while Director Song accused Director Zhong of disregarding human life.

Onlookers (drawing a sharp breath): That bad?

Onlookers: So did they end up doing the surgery?

Eyewitness: (looks around to make sure no one's listening) (whispers): When has Director Song ever won an argument against Director Zhong?

Everyone knew Zhong Chengying and Song Sili had a bad relationship, but nobody knew they had once been classmates, or that Song Sili had written Zhong Chengying a whole box of love letters.

"In my next life, I want to be a beta-1 receptor, found only in your heart, or maybe a sodium-potassium pump."

"I was your nifedipine yesterday, I'll be your cedilanid tomorrow, but today, I'll only be your aspirin."

That didn't stop them from competing fiercely for national scholarships or arguing endlessly on opposite sides of the debate stage...

So much so that after one debate, Zhong Chengying angrily asked Song Sili: Say that again. You think lies in love are well-intentioned?

Song Sili: As the affirmative debater, I stand by my position. But as Song Sili, I will never lie to you.

Song Sili did keep his word. After all, on the day they broke up, the rain was pouring, but he didn't tell a single lie to make her stay.

Zhong Chengying cut their ties cleanly, like a blade slicing through flowing water. But she never imagined that her excellent professional skills would get her hired at the affiliated hospital of Haidu University, where her very first surgery would be with Song Sili.

After the surgery, old grudges and new resentments all came rushing back. Zhong Chengying had always assumed Song Sili felt the same way.

But after the hospital mixer, he cornered her in a stairwell. Song Sili, always so dignified and blameless in everyone else's eyes, bit her lip until it bled and pleaded fiercely, "Chengying, don't choose him. Choose me."
