In the third year of the Tianjing era, the Wen family, led by the prime minister, was executed to the last member on charges of "colluding with the enemy and betraying the country." That same year, the emperor established the Office of Political Supervision to monitor all civil and military officials, under his direct authority.

In the twentieth year of the Tianjing era, the Office of Political Supervision gained a ruthless official: Lord Jing, Jing Yu.

If Lord Jing set his sights on anyone in court, they were lucky to escape with their lives, and would still be left badly battered. Every official, civil or military, cursed him in private.

A corruption case brought Jing Yu face-to-face with Su Yunzhu, commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard and heir to a dukedom held by his family for three generations.

"What a coincidence, Lord Su."

Jing Yu said with a beaming smile.

Su Yunzhu's gaze settled on Jing Yu's hands, hidden beneath his wide sleeves. He unconsciously murmured, "Mm."

Watching Su Yunzhu's expression, Jing Yu could barely keep the smile on his face. His teeth clenched with a loud grind.

Beneath his robes, Jing Yu's wrists were marked with red, purple, and blue bruises.

The two men's subordinates looked from one to the other, unable to figure out what exactly was going on between their lords.

The injustice of a case from seventeen years ago weighed on Jing Yu's shoulders. The only thing keeping him alive was the hope of clearing the Wen family's name.

He succeeded. At last, he dared to openly call himself a descendant of the Wen family.

All along the way, he'd plotted and planned every step. The one thing he hadn't accounted for was that his heart would fall for Su Yunzhu.
