A flight of fancy

One day, while Kawakami Toru was going about his usual business of rummaging through trash cans, a glittering golden ball of light bumped into him.

The little ball claimed to be a System and told him that all he had to do was complete missions according to its instructions to earn cash rewards.

Kawakami Toru was so broke his eyes lit up as he stared at the mission list, and he agreed without hesitation.

And so began his daily grind of missions. Today, he'd casually put a rock on the roadside. Tomorrow, he'd help an older man fix his car. Sometimes he'd clean out a trash can, help an old lady put something away, or pick up litter by the roadside.

As Kawakami Toru's pockets grew heavier, people came looking for him.

"So you're the one who's been secretly changing my scripts?"

Short scene 1:

[Ding! Host, place a rock at XX location at X:X. Mission reward: 50,000 yuan.]

After placing the rock as instructed, Kawakami Toru dusted off his hands and left.

Not long afterward, a man planning to set off a bomb and kill Hagiwara Kenji tripped over the rock. The detonator flew right out of his hand and into the hands of a certain curly-haired police officer.

Short scene 2:

[Ding! Uncle Tamura is in trouble. His car has broken down, and he remembers having an old car with parts that might come in handy. Go to X location at X:X and bring back the parts from the old car. Mission reward: 100,000 yen.]

Having removed just a tiny bit of a bus's parts and brought them back, Kawakami Toru happily went on his way.

Before long, several gray-robed men with a few children tied up inside their vehicle drove off as Oda Sakunosuke ran after them. But the compartment holding the children came right off.

As he held the children and watched the enemy hurry away in nothing but the front of their vehicle, Oda Sakunosuke was left bewildered.
