Yuan Yuan (Reborn | The Second Male Lead Takes the Lead)

[I previously said I'd start posting once I had 100 preorders, but I'm not capable of running two novels at once, so I'll have to finish drafting this one first.]

When Jiang Yuan was sixteen, she met a remarkably gifted young man.

He was exceptionally handsome, as graceful as jade and bamboo. He found her beneath the white clouds and saved her at the top of a cliff.

She heard people say he was the least favored of the emperor's sons, the Ninth Prince, Ji Hanzhou.

The Ninth Prince treated her wonderfully.

He lit up an entire city with lanterns for her, strung red silk ribbons for ten miles, confessed his deepest feelings, and promised her a vast realm.

She gave him her whole heart.

Later, the Ninth Prince ascended the throne, and she became empress. She thought her life would be perfect from then on.

It wasn't until her father was imprisoned, her family fell into ruin, and she herself was gravely ill that Jiang Yuan finally realized it had all been part of a game of chess.

Given another chance, sixteen-year-old Jiang Yuan awoke groggily at her desk.

Looking at her childhood friend, who was fanning her nearby, she wept uncontrollably for the first time.

The usually carefree young general immediately changed expression, panicked, and hurried to comfort her.

Jiang Yuan let him carefully wipe away her tears. Though her eyes were still red and swollen, she thought to herself: It's time someone else took the imperial throne.

Gu Zhao was born arrogant and unruly. With a general for a father, he caused trouble everywhere and did whatever he pleased. The whole capital knew him as a spoiled young scoundrel.

But even a brazen, carefree young man like him would fight through mountains of corpses and seize power amid a tangled political struggle for one person.

Flames blazed, and the Forbidden City was lit through the night.

Scalding blood splattered across his brow. Even with a million soldiers behind him, Gu Zhao could no longer wait for the person who would wipe it away.

The empress of the Great Yong Dynasty had died.

She was his Yuanmei.

The girl he'd spent three thousand days and nights by.

And now he'd never see her again.
