A Cooperative Couple in the Seventies

Zhou Xuehe and Jiang Xiangrong had a whirlwind wedding. They met on a blind date and got their marriage license on the very same day. They married for convenience, not love.

She wanted to avoid being sent to the countryside; he wanted his work unit to assign him an apartment.

After they married, they treated each other with mutual respect.

Everyone said they didn't seem like newlyweds, but more like an old married couple who had been together for decades.

Zhou Xuehe thought it was all pretty nice. But one day, she discovered she was living in a novel written for a male audience.

Fortunately, she wasn't even a background character and had no part in the story. But her new husband was the male lead's older brother, and he was supposed to have died half a month ago!

Zhou Xuehe was terrified of ghosts. Trembling, she reached out to feel his chest.

Jiang Xiangrong suddenly woke up. He took her hand and asked, “Can't sleep because of work? I've already asked someone to pull some strings. We should hear back in the next couple of days.”

“What job?”

“A sales clerk at the supply and marketing cooperative.”

It was a respectable, desirable job, one Zhou Xuehe had dreamed of getting.

Suddenly, she felt that whether Jiang Xiangrong was a man or a ghost didn't matter. What mattered was whether he would take her concerns to heart.
