Before Tomorrow

(A nonsense piece. I felt like writing it, so here it is...)

*

The last time I went to Donglin City Women's Prison to see her was in the early spring of 2020.

I told her I'd sold the house and donated all 1.78 million yuan to a charity foundation. She looked the same as always, just older and thinner. She cursed me, asking how she could have given birth to such a useless idiot.

The next day, Chen Chunyan, she'd changed her name later and called herself "Chen Paris", killed herself in prison, leaving me a very long suicide letter.

Over a hundred thousand words. Chen Paris spent nearly two years writing it in prison, listing in detail the "great deeds" of her life.

She graduated from a vocational school and went to the city to work. Later, she killed her husband and her parents-in-law one after another. At forty-eight, she was sent to prison for smuggling and intentional homicide. Her assets were confiscated, leaving me an eighty-square-meter house in her hometown.

I sold the house, and my mother died too.

The letter ended with just this:

Chen Yutong, in my next life, I dream of being a rich Parisian.

And then, never giving birth to you again.

[Updated irregularly. Not very long. Third-person narration. I'm just writing this for fun. Actually, I'm not quite sure what the specific criteria are for the no-couple category, but the heroine gets married and has a daughter.]

(This used to be posted as a collection of essays, so some comments are from back then. I don't feel like writing essays anymore, so I decided to turn it into a short story.)

Theme: Respect and love yourself. Cherish who you are.
